This is the year to say no to caked-on heavy makeup, and to strip back your cosmetics bag to the bare necessities! The SS15 runways saw a huge shift towards minimal makeup styles with concealer-only looks at Proenza Schouler and completely makeup-free faces at Marc Jacobs! This trend is all about keeping things simple, and letting a glowing dewy complexion do the talking for you.

Start wearing purple – This season keep an eye out for sultry shades of plum, lilac and mauve. As seen on the runways at big name shows including Derek Lam, Vera Wang and Matthew Williamson; these high fashion shades work best as a dramatic smokey eye with a paired back look to make eyes of any colour pop!

Last year’s lipsticks were muted and minimal, which was nice for a change – but we are pleased to report that this season sees the return of the red lip! In every conceivable shade from soft berry to sultry scarlet and sunset crimson; red is the only way for SS15.

The catwalks embraced the pop art makeup look for SS15 with bold flashes of colour across the eyes. As seen at Fendi, Dior and Peter Som; makeup artists created statement looks using strips of coloured leather, satin, stickers and even swipes of lipstick across the eyelids! Now we’re not suggesting that it’s a good idea to glue leather to your face, but a bit of experimentation with coloured eyeliners is sure to liven up your look this year!
