Carrie Underwood & The Saturdays’ Una Foden’s Seraphine Style

It’s been another busy week here at Seraphine, with two more stylish expectant mamas looking stunning in Seraphine maternity clothes – country singing super star Carrie Underwood and The Saturdays’ Una Foden!

Carrie Underwood

The most successful American Idol winner ever, country singing star Carrie Underwood looked stunning in our Graphic Maternity Dress on US talk show, The Rachael Ray show on Friday.

Carrie Underwood in Seraphine

The country singing super star opened up about her pregnancy cravings – midnight pop tarts anyone? -and her new greatest hits album, and looked utterly gorgeous, teaming the dress with a stylish pair of dangling earrings. They say the camera adds 10 pounds, but there was no sign of it here – the patterned bodycon dress flattered Carrie’s figure perfectly, leaving her looking svelte and stylish on screen. She wore her long blonde hair in beautifully set loose waves, and finished the polished look with the perfect smokey eyes.

Carrie and her hockey player husband Mike Fisher are expecting their first baby – a little boy! – in spring 2015.

Una Foden

Over the weekend 1/5 of The Saturdays, Una Foden posted a glamorous snap on Instagram wearing our Faux Leather Panel Maternity Leggings and our Black Asymmetric Sheer Flutter Sleeve Nursing Top. She styled the outfit with a statement shearling gilet, a gold necklace, smart black ankle boots and a stylish tote bag, finishing the look with sleek long hair and soft metallic eye shadow – talk about a rock chic mama! Our Faux Leather Leggings are a must-have for a fashion forward mum-to-be: Una isn’t the only celeb to love them – former Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt and style icon Gwen Stefani both created uber-glamorous looks with these stylish leather leggings too.

Una and her Rugby Union star husband Ben Foden are expecting a little brother for their 2 and a half year old daughter Aoife Belle, in spring 2015.

Una is still touring (and dancing!) with the Saturdays, and Carrie has been busy performing and co-hosting at the CMA awards and celebrating 10 years in the music industry with the release of her album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1. These two fashionable expectant mamas have stayed true to their own signature styles throughout pregnancy – proving once again that a growing bump is no reason to sacrifice your style.

Keep up the good work ladies – we are loving your looks!

News From New York: Regal Seraphine Style in the City

This week the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid a royal visit to New York City, and we were delighted to see the Duchess wearing Seraphine.

New York welcomed the royal couple by lighting up the iconic Empire State Building in red white and blue, and The Duchess greeted New York wearing our Seraphine Marina Maternity Coat. Made in a luxurious wool tweed bouclé, the elegant purple coat was popular with the fashion press and the public alike, and is currently out of stock.

Then on Tuesday The Duchess attended the Creativity is GREAT reception at New York’s NeueHouse, wearing the Seraphine Black Roll Neck Vanessa Dress. The reception was held to celebrate the wealth of British talent in the film, fashion, art and music industries based in NYC; an interest shared by both the Duke & Duchess, having met studying history of art at St Andrews. The Duchess teamed the dress with a stunning hooped Cartier necklace and a graceful curled ponytail, achieving a classic, elegant look. The Black Roll Neck Vanessa Dress worn by The Duchess is currently available for pre-order, and is set to arrive in early January.

New York is one of the true fashion capitals of the world, and there’s no doubt that it’s the place to be right now. We are delighted to have become a part of this stylish city, with our brand new Seraphine maternity store just opened on West Broadway – New York mums have never had it so good when it comes to maternity fashion inspiration.

Scent-sational: Sniffing out the perfect perfume

When asked what she wore in bed, Marilyn Monroe famously replied:

“Why, Chanel No. 5 of course”

Now there was a woman with a signature scent!

There is nothing more evocative of time and place than scent. A familiar smell can trigger memories, feelings, sensations and even emotions, so if you are looking to make a lasting impression, there really is no better way than with the perfect perfume.

Chanel No.5

With Christmas coming up, now is the time to start hinting to your other half about what you might like to find under the tree, and perfume is a fabulous choice. But the dizzying array of options available can be a little overwhelming, and it’s sometimes tricky to know where to begin.

Well we are here to help! When choosing your perfect perfume, it’s helpful to bear in mind that scents can be divided up into 4 main categories: floral, oriental, woody and fresh – finding out how your personal style fits into the scent spectrum can be a great way to narrow down your options, helping you on your way to finding your new signature scent!

Floral Mama

New Mama & Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen’s Slimming Secret

This week super model Doutzen Kroes and her fellow angels rocked the runway at one of the fashion industry’s most hotly anticipated events – the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show!

A celebration of all things sparkly, sensual and sensational; being invited to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway – earning your Angel wings – is a sure sign that you have earned true super model status.

But wait… – we here you cry – Didn’t she just have a baby???

That’s right! Incredibly, Doutzen was invited back to don her Angel wings Just a little over 4 months after welcoming her second baby – beautiful daughter Myllena Mae into the world! Her post-baby transformation has been truly amazing! So what’s her slimming secret?… Read on to find out!

Doutzen’s Maternity Style Secret

Of course the super model looked utterly gorgeous throughout her pregnancy, beautiful baby bump and all – Doutzen is a huge Seraphine maternity wear fan, and wore plenty of our styles while she was expecting over the summer. She loved our maternity maxi dresses, styling our Aqua Draped Maternity Maxi  for a day out at the park, and even choosing our Crochet Detail Maxi Dress to attend a charity event with legendary trend spotter and head of American Vogue Anna Wintour! A little later on she was spotted out and about looking stylish in our Black Knitted Maternity Cape. And nearing the end of her pregnancy she shared snaps with her 2.1 million Instagram followers wearing our Neon Pink Striped Nursing Tank Top  & our Sparkly Nautical Striped Tunic, and just the day before she gave birth she looked fabulous, posting a fun bump shot in our Black Maternity Shift Dress!

Doutzen Kroes maternity style

Doutzen’s Slimming Secret

Another of Doutzen’s favourite Seraphine styles are the Grey Bamboo Leggings, which she wore throughout her pregnancy to attend pre-natal ballet classes with Mary Helen Bowers of Ballet Beautiful in New York.

And this, it seems is one of the secrets to her incredible post-baby slimming success! Along with a healthy diet, Doutzen stayed fit and active throughout her nine months, attending regular Ballet Beautiful classes to keep her body lean and supple.

This sort of exercise during pregnancy not only helps when it comes to labour, but also makes it easier to shed those extra pounds after baby is born.

Doutzen Kroes Ballet Beautiful

The Ballet Beautiful classes are a favourite workout among many of the Victoria’s Secret Angels including Lily Aldridge, Candace Swanepoel & Adrianna Ambrosio. And Mary Helen Bowers herself spent an intensive year training Natalie Portman for her role in Black Swan! The Ballet Beautiful studios are located in SoHo Manhattan, in the very same neighbourhood as our flagship New York store. And while they were in the area for the store launch party, our founder Cecile and some of the Seraphine team met Mary Helen and joined in with one of her classes!

If you can’t make it all the way to New York, you can join in by streaming live or pre-recorded classes direct to your PC from anywhere in the world! Or alternatively, Mary Helen has a brand new range of Ballet Baby DVDs for you to enjoy at home. Designed to help strengthen and tone for a fitter, healthier pregnancy & birth – what a fantastic early Christmas present to yourself!

Watch Mary Helen dance at 7 months pregnant & a taster workout with Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge

Looking at the images from this week’s Victoria’s Secret show, there’s no denying that the Ballet Beautiful program has worked for Doutzen – just imagine what it could do for you!

Growing a Family Business – by Pink Lining Founder Charlotte Pearl

Charlotte Pearl is the designer behind, and co-founder of Pink Lining, a multi award winning, international label specialising in the Mother & Baby market – Just recently they were over the moon to win brand of the year in the Little London Magazine awards as voted for by the public.

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

As a mother of 4, the youngest being only just one year old, I know only too well the highs and lows of juggling family life and my own business. And yet my family is the inspiration for our Pink Lining products – I design for my own family and therefore hopefully for yours too.

Originally, I designed and made fashion bags, spurred on by a challenge from my then boyfriend, now husband, and co-founder of Pink Lining, Rufus. Upon spotting a bag that I liked but couldn’t afford at the time, I declared that I could make it myself… and thus Rufus challenged me to do so!  Subsequently I received commissions from friends and colleagues, which encouraged me to take photos with a disposable camera of my hand-made creations, hung from my front door handle, which I then posted off, along with my press release – to Vogue, Tatler, Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty!…Aim for the stars!… Within a couple of weeks I had an order from Harrods, swiftly followed by confirmation that the product would be featured in Vogue and Tatler! After finding a manufacturer and fulfilling the order (a rather challenging task!) the bags sold out from Harrods within 3 weeks and Liberty and Selfridges also subsequently placed orders….

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

A few years and numerous fashion weeks later, I was overjoyed to find myself pregnant with our first child. My first experience of the rather precarious juggling act of balancing ensuing family life with running my business occurred before she had even entered the world. I was 10 days overdue, and Rufus and I were in Saint Mary’s Paddington for my induction appointment. Being ever so slightly headstrong and rather inexperienced in giving birth I insisted that I could walk from St Mary’s Paddington to the local post office to post a bag to a customer… after having had my waters broken…. Let’s just say that I didn’t make it to the front of the queue before I realised that children come first and Amelia arrived 3 ¾ hours later – thankfully back in the hospital.   So as for the question I’m often asked; how did motherhood impact my business – well, it actually BECAME my business…I’ve heard it said that this is getting to plan B…in my case B was for Baby.

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

The first Pink Lining changing bag – the Yummy Mummy bag was born and instantly captured the imaginations of an exciting and rapidly growing mother and baby market. This bag didn’t mean you had to be a certain dress size or look a certain way in order to wear it – for, as we believe at Pink Lining, even down to the internal components of our products; it is what is on the inside that truly counts.  Our customers have a shared outlook, not a shared look, and here was a product that was both practical, and fulfilled a very justifiable purpose, moreover it brought a smile to the face of the wearer. Our Pink Lining changing bags seemed to strike a chord.

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

It sounds like a cliché but 12 years ago before my first (of four) arrived, there wasn’t the proliferation of bags that we have for mothers today – so I made one, and it became our best seller and we morphed from a fashion accessories business, into a family brand.  And thus the business has sprung up, evolved and grown alongside our family.

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

Family has and always will come first for me – even though that means working late into the night and early in the morning. Rufus and I run and co-own the company together which can help when it comes to juggling work and family commitments between us, and although I often work crazy hours I can mostly arrange to be there for the important occasions such as school plays and netball or football matches.  However, it also means that sometimes there is no off button in terms of taking work home with us! So for us, a family business really means all six of us…in fact seven if you include the dog who appears in most of our marketing photos!

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

I think it’s exciting and educational for the children to witness the process of running one’s own business – allowing them to feel and actually be part of it. They play such an important part in the company, testing out the Pink Lining Child products, and giving advice on their favourite themes and colours; they love sitting alongside me coming up with their own fabric designs, some rather outlandish ideas for magic bags which I may pare down a little (a lot).

A photo posted by Charlotte Pearl (@pinklining) on

They get very excited about spotting the bags out and about, (we all do!), and as tiny babies they accompanied us to important meetings and charmed buyers, (running your own business doesn’t give you much in the way of maternity leave!!). Even the company name, Pink Lining, stems from an amalgamation of childhood sentiments & family nostalgia – derived from stories my mother would weave about a make believe land called Pink cloud and the belief that every cloud has a silver lining, which she now recounts to her grandchildren – our children.

Last Easter really summed up what a family business Pink Lining is as we undertook a 5 ½ weeks trip to see our suppliers in China, distributors in Seoul and new partners in Australia… Rufus and I, Amelia-Rose (11), Lucas (8), Arthur (6) and Henrietta (1)!  Pink lining really is a family adventure!

Pink Lining changing bags make the perfect partners for Seraphine maternity clothes and our stunning nursing dresses!

Kim Murray Cheers on Hubby Andy to Davis Cup Victory in Seraphine!

This Sunday, we were thrilled to watch tennis champ Andy Murray lead the British team to their first Davis Cup Victory in almost 80 years! We were glued to our screens throughout the exciting competition, and no one could be prouder than his beautiful wife Kim, who cheered him on looking stunning in a classic white Seraphine maternity shirt.

Kim and Andy Murray

Watching from the stands, Kim lived every shot along with her husband, cheering and even hiding behind her Union Jack flag when the match got too tense! Our stylish Ivory Maternity Blouse was the perfect choice for this history-making day of tennis. The breezy shirt is cut long to flatter a growing bump, and Kim styled it smart casual, rolled up at the elbows with natural makeup and loose flowing hair – perfect for showing off her stunning wedding ring.

Kim Murray

The couple tied the knot back in the spring and are now expecting their first child together in February 2016. We are thrilled to see Kim looking so stylish in Seraphine maternity clothes, and can’t wait to watch as her pregnancy style evolves.

Congratulations Team GB, and best of luck to parents-to-be Kim and Andy!
