What’s in Your Hospital Bag? With First Time Mama Christina

Packing your hospital bag is the perfect way to feel prepared & empowered for labour. But it isn’t always easy to judge what you’ll need on the big day.

We caught up with Seraphine model & first-time mama Christina to find out what she’s packing in her hospital bag.

What’s in Christina’s Hospital Bag? Watch the Video

Here’s Christina’s list & the links to everything included… just in case you’d like to nab any ideas for your own hospital bag!

What to Wear During Labour?

Pregnant woman wearing maternity leggings & a tank top. Must-haves for the hospital bag

Labour can be a long & often messy process, so we advise a few changes of clothes to keep you feeling fresh. Some comfy leggings & tanks are ideal for the early stages, then our two pack of black button-down nighties are ideal for the main event.

They’re super soft & stretchy, and the practical button down design allows access to the bump during labour & then for skin to skin & breastfeeding immediately after.

What You’ll Need After Baby Arrives

New mother hugs her newborn baby in the Seraphine skin to skin top. A hospital bag must-have.

For the first 24 to 48 hours after having your baby, the hospital will usually want to keep you & baby in for monitoring, so make sure you have enough comfy clothes to recover in & everything you need for an overnight stay.

Nursing bras & clothes with easy access will be important – our Skin to Skin Top is also a must-have.

Mama of two & Seraphine model Rosie Wicks, who you may recognise from PE with Joe this week, is the wife of Joe Wicks, The Body Coach and mama to their two gorgeous children, almost 2 year old Indie and 4 & ½ month old son Marley.

Rosie was a big fan of Seraphine maternity clothes through both of her pregnancies & afterwards for nursing. We caught up with her when Marley was just 6 weeks old, and she shared a few of her favourite post maternity styles.

4 The Skin to Skin Top

Get the Look: Black Skin to Skin Top with the Grey Bamboo Maternity Leggings

Marley was born 3 weeks premature, so the Skin to Skin to top was one of Rosie’s favourites in the very early days. It secures baby against your chest, in the safe skin to skin position, keeping you both covered up & cosy & leaving your hands free.

It’s perfect for kangaroo care, especially on the busy NICU ward.

Amy Willerton & Ashley Graham Smash Stigmas around Breastfeeding in Public

Where, when & how a woman chooses to feed her baby ought not to be a taboo topic. Yet many new mums still feel nervous about the idea of breastfeeding in public.

This week we were inspired to see new mamas Amy Willerton & Ashley Graham proudly breastfeeding their babes while out & about.

Model & TV presenter Amy Willerton, who welcomed her first baby, Demelza, back in January, posted this gorgeous picture wearing one of our maternity & nursing tunics, along with a heartfelt caption about her recent struggles with breastfeeding.

She wrote: “Yesterday was my first PUBLIC feed with Dem. Seems mad as she’s 6 weeks old but basically I haven’t been brave enough yet...”

She credited US model & body positivity champion Ashley Graham for giving her the confidence to breastfeed in public. Ashley recently posted this similar snap of herself feeding her new son Isaac in a café in Brooklyn.

Amy recently opened up about her breastfeeding journey on IGTV. Watch the full video above to find out what’s been working for her & Demelza.

Seraphine Mums Talk Breastfeeding in Public

Here at Seraphine we’re big believers in #fedisbest and doing whatever works for you & your little one. We have many mums on our team, so we asked them to share a bit about their own breastfeeding journies.

This is what they had to say about breastfeeding in public:

Check out the rest of the Seraphine mums’ videos here.

We design our nursing clothes to be comfortable, practical & stylish, so you can have the confidence to breastfeed whenever & wherever your baby is hungry.

And of course, breastfeeding in public doesn’t always have to mean baring a boob. We offer all kinds of nursing access, from discreet zips, poppers & buttons to easy lift-up layers.

And for those who don’t feel completely comfortable nursing in public, one of our stylish nursing shawls is the perfect choice!

Whether it’s formula, pre-pumped, breastfeeding in public or a combination of all of the above, how you feed your baby is YOUR decision.

Three Ways to Prepare for Labor & Life with a Newborn Baby

Preparing yourself & your home for the arrival of your brand new little one is a great way to ease your mind ahead of labor.

These are our top tips to help you feel as ready as possible.

1) Stock up on Supplies

Pregnant mum with daughters in the kitchen

Embrace those natural nesting instincts & stock up on EVERYTHING.

Batch cooking some easy freezer meals is a great idea, as well as kitting out your pantry.

From pasta & rice to cans, tins & jars… even lightbulbs, laundry supplies & loo roll!

And if you’re planning to breastfeed, it’s a great idea to have some nursing clothes ready to go.

2) Pack Your Hospital Bag

Obvious, but essential.

Getting your hospital bag packed & ready to go a few weeks before your due date is a great way to prepare.

It will help things run smoothly on the day, and knowing that it’s ready is sure to ease your mind as you wait.

Check out our full hospital bag checklist here.

3) Seek out Positive Birth Stories

Get the Skin to Skin Top

New Mum Gifts with Fashion Blogger Elena Sandor of Eat.Wear.Travel

Congratulations new mama! Your beautiful little bundle of joy has arrived and here at Seraphine we have a few fabulous treats lined up to help you settle into your new role as mum. That’s right – the style doesn’t stop just because baby is born!

We’ve teamed up with fashion blogger Elena Sandor and her gorgeous new daughter Emma to show you just a few of our must-have new mum gifts.

The Stylish Changing Bag

Elena had tried several other styles before settling on our Cambridge Leather Changing Bag. Ours was the only one that not only fitted her needs as a new mama, but also stood up to the style test. She was thrilled with the chic look, and even plans to use it as a smart work bag after Emma is out of nappies. She said:

“The Seraphine Bag I have been carrying for a couple of weeks now, is a dream come true. Designed to look and feel just like a designer handbag, all my friends have been admiring it since it doesn’t look at all like a changing bag. Now I don’t have to hide it under a table, but proudly place it in the center of attention.”

Check out our stylish range of designer changing bags now!

The Tummy Tuck Leggings

After struggling with post-baby body image, Elena was thrilled to find our Post Maternity Shaping Leggings. Designed to smooth and sculpt your curves, these leggings provide medium level compression to streamline your silhouette and gently realign your uterus after pregnancy.

“They are simply amazing, tucking in all the unnecessary curves, providing 360° of compression. They are very high waisted going right up to underneath the bust, giving me the confidence to wear my pre-pregnancy clothes again. The material is thick and a bit glossy, perfect to wear under tunics or dresses.”

The 3 in 1 Maternity Parka

Get the look - Elena Sandor wears the Seraphine maternity parka

Elena named our clever 3 in 1 maternity coat ‘the parka of the season’! It’s fully adjustable with a drawstring waist, designed to be worn throughout pregnancy and long after baby is born. It comes with an ingenious zip on kangaroo panel at the front that’s perfect for babywearing – it fits easily over your baby sling or front carrier. As far as new mum gifts go, this is sure to be a winner!
“Seraphine has launched the coolest parka ever. Emma really loved it, she slept through our walk in the cold Brasov (mountain town in Romania). This is going to be my go to parka throughout the entire cold season!”

Baby K’tan

Baby K'tan loved by celebrities

And the perfect partner for the 3 in 1 parka? It has to be the Baby K’tan baby carriers! Quicker & easier to put on than a traditional wrap, the Baby K’tan is the babywearing sensation that converts can’t stop talking about. Made in soft natural cotton, the Baby K’tan is a celebrity favourite – it’s the ideal sling to team with your parka.
