Rosie Wicks, Wife of the Body Coach, Shares her Top 5 Post-Maternity Pieces

Mama of two & Seraphine model Rosie Wicks, who you may recognise from PE with Joe this week, is the wife of Joe Wicks, The Body Coach and mama to their two gorgeous children, almost 2 year old Indie and 4 & ½ month old son Marley.

Rosie was a big fan of Seraphine maternity clothes through both of her pregnancies & afterwards for nursing. We caught up with her when Marley was just 6 weeks old, and she shared a few of her favourite post maternity styles.

Marley was born 3 weeks premature, so the Skin to Skin to top was one of Rosie’s favourites in the very early days. It secures baby against your chest, in the safe skin to skin position, keeping you both covered up & cosy & leaving your hands free.

It’s perfect for kangaroo care, especially on the busy NICU ward.

Eva Amurri Martino Shares Her Best Maternity Fashion Moments

Stunning actress and blogger Eva Amurri Martino is one stylish mama, who has rocked some seriously chic Seraphine looks throughout her pregnancy. Eva recently welcomed her second baby, Major James into the world, and we thought that now would be the perfect time to take a look back at some of her best maternity fashion moments…

Stylish Nursing Tops

Since baby Major’s arrival, Eva has been taking every opportunity to bond with her little bundle of joy. We can’t get over this adorable picture of her breastfeeding her son, looking totally chic and comfy in one of our striped nursing tops – get the look & team the top with one of our comfortable nursing bras.

Just before Christmas she looked fantastic (and so slim!) in our classic Black Nursing Top, which she teamed with a stylish monochrome skirt. A perfect easy outfit for the holidays.

Chic Maternity Clothes

And as much as she loves our nursing clothes, she was even more of a fan of our chic maternity clothes before Major arrived! She took our breath away at her baby shower, teaming our Champagne Cut Out Lace Maternity Dress with a chic pair of red heels and matching lipstick.

We loved her in our signature Knot Front Maternity Dress – the sea breeze polka dot print she chose worked perfectly with Eva’s colouring, helping to bring out her natural glow.

Proving that our nursing tops are perfect for pregnancy too, Eva looked stunning in our Red & White Striped Maternity & Nursing Top for the big reveal of her newly decorated family room. She teamed the top with a pair of chic ripped jeans and sandals for an easy off-duty look.

New Mum Gifts with Fashion Blogger Elena Sandor of Eat.Wear.Travel

Congratulations new mama! Your beautiful little bundle of joy has arrived and here at Seraphine we have a few fabulous treats lined up to help you settle into your new role as mum. That’s right – the style doesn’t stop just because baby is born!

We’ve teamed up with fashion blogger Elena Sandor and her gorgeous new daughter Emma to show you just a few of our must-have new mum gifts.

The Stylish Changing Bag

Elena had tried several other styles before settling on our Cambridge Leather Changing Bag. Ours was the only one that not only fitted her needs as a new mama, but also stood up to the style test. She was thrilled with the chic look, and even plans to use it as a smart work bag after Emma is out of nappies. She said:

“The Seraphine Bag I have been carrying for a couple of weeks now, is a dream come true. Designed to look and feel just like a designer handbag, all my friends have been admiring it since it doesn’t look at all like a changing bag. Now I don’t have to hide it under a table, but proudly place it in the center of attention.”

Check out our stylish range of designer changing bags now!

The Tummy Tuck Leggings

After struggling with post-baby body image, Elena was thrilled to find our Post Maternity Shaping Leggings. Designed to smooth and sculpt your curves, these leggings provide medium level compression to streamline your silhouette and gently realign your uterus after pregnancy.

“They are simply amazing, tucking in all the unnecessary curves, providing 360° of compression. They are very high waisted going right up to underneath the bust, giving me the confidence to wear my pre-pregnancy clothes again. The material is thick and a bit glossy, perfect to wear under tunics or dresses.”

The 3 in 1 Maternity Parka

Get the look - Elena Sandor wears the Seraphine maternity parka

Elena named our clever 3 in 1 maternity coat ‘the parka of the season’! It’s fully adjustable with a drawstring waist, designed to be worn throughout pregnancy and long after baby is born. It comes with an ingenious zip on kangaroo panel at the front that’s perfect for babywearing – it fits easily over your baby sling or front carrier. As far as new mum gifts go, this is sure to be a winner!
“Seraphine has launched the coolest parka ever. Emma really loved it, she slept through our walk in the cold Brasov (mountain town in Romania). This is going to be my go to parka throughout the entire cold season!”

Baby K’tan

Baby K'tan loved by celebrities

And the perfect partner for the 3 in 1 parka? It has to be the Baby K’tan baby carriers! Quicker & easier to put on than a traditional wrap, the Baby K’tan is the babywearing sensation that converts can’t stop talking about. Made in soft natural cotton, the Baby K’tan is a celebrity favourite – it’s the ideal sling to team with your parka.

Nursing Clothes: HELLO! Online Editor is Totally Taken with Seraphine

Andrea Caamano is HELLO! Online’s managing editor. She just became a first-time mum to an adorable baby boy named Ethan. Here, she shares her views on pregnancy style and why she’s totally taken with Seraphine’s nursing clothes…

Andrea Caamano wears the Seraphine Love Top

When I became pregnant I genuinely believed I could go through my whole pregnancy without buying maternity clothes. I usually favour loose styles – think oversized T-shirts and low waisted jeans – which I thought were ideal for pregnancy style…Turns out I was wrong!

As soon as my bump popped, around the six month mark, the aforementioned loose styles started to become very unflattering. There was no definition and I ended up looking bigger than I actually was. Not ideal.

BLonde model wearing a Striped Seraphine Nursing Jumper on a ladder

So it was time for a wardrobe revamp – just in time for summer!

Seraphine soon became my go-to brand. I work in the celebrity and royalty world and so I knew that I would be in good hands (I’ve written countless articles about Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and the Duchess of Cambridge wearing their creations, not forgetting Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani!).

Seraphine designs manage to strike the balance between fashion and function – which is all-important when you’re carrying around a rather large bump! Their maternity jeans fit like a glove, the tops showed off my bump perfectly and I love the dresses – I even wore a beautiful white maxi dress to my baby shower at 38 weeks.

Seraphine Nursing Clothes Compliation

Shortly after mastering maternity wear, I was interviewing a celebrity who had recently given birth. Speaking to her, I realised it was time to start thinking about nursing clothes

This celebrity had her son with her during the interview and had to briefly stop to breastfeed. She pulled out this beautiful white shawl with poppers for fastening at the shoulder and I decided that I needed it asap (pregnancy hormones make you go crazy for the most random things!).

Stylish the Seraphine Nursing Shawls

She told me it was Seraphine’s ‘Breastfeeding Shawl‘ and I went home to search for it online. There, I uncovered their amazing world of nursing clothes – and thank goodness I did.

Honestly, it has saved my life! The first weeks are hard enough with a newborn, especially if, like me, it’s your first time round. But having the right nursing clothes – think tops, knitwear, shawls and even nightwear – which are not only practical but seriously fashionable, makes this whole new experience 100 times smoother!

New Mum Style: 5 Fashion Tips for Nursing Mums

Congratulations new mama! Bringing a baby into the world is pretty high up there on the list of life altering events – but with the right nursing clothes, it certainly doesn’t have to mean that you sacrifice your style. To help you on your quest for yummy mummy style, check out our top 5 fashion tips for nursing mums:

Our first piece of advice is to hold onto those maternity clothes for just a little while longer. Your favourite comfy, stretchy styles are perfect for those first precious months with your newborn. They provide plenty of cover and a flexible fit while your body begins to settle back to normal.

At Seraphine, all of our maternity clothes are designed to fit and flatter your figure before, during and after pregnancy, and you’ll be especially pleased to have your maternity jeans to pair with new nursing tops!

nursing jumpers

The world is your oyster when it comes to nursing access these days. You can go for zips, poppers, buttons, clips, wrap dresses and even discreet double layer lift up tops and dresses – it’s all about which style suits you and your baby best.

Our Breton Cotton Blend Nursing Jumper opens at the sides with easy poppers – it’s a must-have for a new mum!

Now that baby is born it’s not just your sensitive skin you have to think about – your baby will be cuddling up against whatever you wear! Super soft natural fabrics like cotton, linen and bamboo viscose are ideal.

You’ll love our Striped Cotton Maternity & Nursing Tops, available in red, blue and pink stripes. Made in 100% pure cotton, they’re guaranteed to be kind on sensitive skin.

Of course all of your styling efforts will be in vain if you don’t have the right lingerie underpinning your outfit! Well-fitting nursing bras are a must, and a good collection of supportive post-pregnancy bodies and vests and leggings is a great way to smooth your shape.

Breastfeeding covers

There’s nothing like a stylish nursing shawl for breastfeeding on-the-go! A trendy fashion accessory and an ultra-versatile piece, these shawls pair perfectly with our designer changing bags, and make a beautiful gift for a new mum.

Nursing Bras & Maternity Bras: Busting the Myths Wide Open

We want to talk about bras… Specifically, maternity bras & nursing bras. Bra buying can be a challenge at the best of times; add to that the drastic fluctuations in size and the extra features you’ll need for pregnancy and nursing, and you’ve got quite an underclothing conundrum on your hands. This week on the blog we are ironing out the issues and busting the myths wide open. Mamas: Welcome to Seraphine’s Ultimate Guide to Maternity & Nursing Bras!

Maternity & Nursing Bras: The Basics

First off let’s get one thing straight: your bra is not just there to look pretty. It has a very important job to do – keeping you and your bust fully secure and supported. During pregnancy this job becomes even more vital; as the added weight of your growing bust can put pressure on the delicate ligaments at the top of your chest, causing them to stretch. So we think it’s fair to say that your maternity and nursing bras are a pretty important underwear purchase!

Pregnant woman wears a Seraphine maternity bra & robe

When fitting your bra, the recommendation is that:

80% of the weight of your breasts should be supported entirely by the under-bust, and only 20% should be carried by the straps.

Seraphine maternity and nursing bras are made with super supportive elastic instead of underwire. This helps you to keep your shape and makes for a healthier, more comfortable option.

Buying Maternity Bras

nursing bras basics

When to Buy a Maternity Bra

Generally, your cup size will grow over the first 20 or so weeks of pregnancy. Your rib cage will start to expand after that from 20 weeks onwards.

We suggest switching to a maternity bra at some point in your second trimester. Your cup size should be fairly stable by then, and all of our maternity bras are made with extra hook and eye settings at the back to allow a flexible fit to accommodate your expanding rib cage.

Fitting Your Maternity Bra

As a general rule of thumb: Take your usual pre-pregnancy bra size, and then go 1 cup size up and 1 back size up. So if you usually wear a 34C, you’ll want to try a 36D.

When trying on your maternity bra, make sure that you feel comfortably secure on the tightest setting, giving yourself plenty of room to adjust the fit as you grow.

Buying Nursing Bras

When to buy a Nursing Bra

When your milk comes in for breastfeeding you may find that you’re busting out of your bras again, so it’s a good idea to buy new nursing bras a couple of weeks before your due date. That way you’ll be prepared when baby arrives, and will have a good idea of the size you’ll need.

If you continue with breastfeeding, you may find that once you’ve established a feeding routine and your body is basically back to normal, you’ll need a smaller size. All of our maternity bras feature nursing capabilities, so at this point, you can switch back to using the maternity bras you bought in your second trimester!

Watch John Lewis’ tips for choosing your nursing bra

Fitting your Nursing Bra

Take your pregnancy bra size, and then go 1 cup size up and 1 back size down. So if you are wearing a 36D near the end of your pregnancy, you should opt for a 34DD for nursing.

When you try on your nursing bra towards the end of your pregnancy, it should feel comfortably secure on the loosest setting so that you can tighten it up over time as your body settles back to normal.

Looking After Your Maternity Lingerie

Remember: not all bras are machine washable!

To avoid disaster, always read the instructions on the label and if in doubt:

  • Hand wash with cold water
  • If you choose to machine wash, hook the bra together and use a wash bag, setting it to a delicate cycle.
  • Dry your bra in the shade to avoid sun damage and do not tumble dry

Nursing Clothes Shopping List

Nursing clothes must-haves

If you plan to breastfeed, it’s a good idea to have plenty of nursing clothes ready a couple of weeks before your due date. Nobody wants a situation where daddy gets sent out on an emergency clothes shopping trip – least of all him! So what will you actually need aside from nursing bras:

We know there’s a lot to take in here, but we hope you’ve found it helpful. For more info, make sure to check out our Maternity & Nursing Bra Advice online.

Baby is coming: Be ready with nursing clothes & a beautiful nursery

With a baby on the way, now is the time to plan ahead and prepare. Life with your little one will bring plenty of surprises along the way, so it’s smart to be as prepared as possible before the birth. This week on the blog, we’ve got you covered when it comes to nursing clothes, and our friends at Izziwotnot are here to help you create a beautiful nursery for you and baby.

Read on for your exclusive Izziwotnot discount code!

Nursing Clothes

If you plan to breastfeed, it’s a great idea to put together the beginnings of your nursing wardrobe through your third trimester. Nobody wants a situation where daddy gets sent on an emergency shopping mission for nursing bras two days after the birth – least of all him! And the great thing about being prepared is that most good nursing clothes can be worn through pregnancy too, so the earlier you invest, the more wear you’ll get out of your clothes.

To start you off, we suggest investing in at least 3 nursing bras – one to wear, one in the wash & one ready to go. For taking it easy after the birth, a good collection of basic nursing tees, tanks and vests will be perfect for pairing with leggings or your maternity jeans. And for getting out and about with baby, a few chic nursing dresses and jumpers offer comfort and style, while an ultra-soft nursing shawl for discreet feeding on-the-go completes the collection.
