Water Babies – Win a Relaxing Session at the Baby Spa

You’re never too young to enjoy a relaxing day at the spa! This week on the blog we’re giving away 3 free sessions at the Kensington Baby Spa – read on to find out more…

As women, we tend to be very in tune with the simple, natural benefits of warm water. We all know that a hot bath will ease tension and relax your muscles after a busy day, and that a good swim is the perfect way to work out during pregnancy.

The pool will support your weight, allowing you to work your muscles and get a great cardio workout with minimal impact on your joints or bones. Click in the image to browse our chic maternity swimwear collection and feel fantastic in the pool.

Shop Seraphine Swimwear

But the benefits of warm water don’t have to stop after baby has arrived! Newborn babies have a natural affinity with water: The feeling of floating calms and soothes them, and they even have an amazing innate ability to hold their breath under water.

Allowing your newborn to play and explore their abilities in water early might just mean a stress-free introduction to swimming lessons later on!

Shop the Popular Seraphine Tankini

The Baby Spa in Kensington offers the perfect calming environment to bridge the gap and ensure that your baby maintains their natural confidence in water. The brainchild of experienced hydrotherapist and swim enthusiast Laura Sevenus, The Baby Spa offers a unique floatation experience and relaxing baby massage for tots from 2 days old and throughout the first 6 months.

Baby Spa founder Laura says that sessions at the Baby Spa help little ones:

to prepare for swimming programmes both physically and emotionally, ensuring they enjoy a carefree and enjoyable journey to attaining the necessary swimming skills without cohesion or crying.

A session at the Baby Spa beings with a 10 to 30 minute immersion in warm purified water in a neonatal pod, supported by the Bubby – a patented flotation device which enables baby  to move freely in water. When your baby is ready to come out, there will be warm, soft towels waiting, and he or she will be treated to a gentle massage. (You will also have the chance to learn professional infant massage techniques to try at home!)

This week, 3 lucky winners will receive a relaxing free session at the Kensington Baby Spa, usually worth £50!

To enter, simply share this post with your followers on Facebook or Twitter, and leave a comment to let us know you’ve done it.

Grey is the New Black: Meet The Shade of the Decade

From Apple Macs and iPhones to interior design and the fashion elite; it’s safe to say that grey is most definitely the new black!

Taking a look back into the fashion trends of the past, every decade tends to have a clearly definable signature shade: black and white for the 60’s, earthy browns and yellows for the 70’s, electric blue and neons for the 80’s and black and grey for the 90’s. The first decade of the new millennium got a little confused with an ‘anything goes’ attitude to colour, but here and now in 2014 grey is undoubtedly the chicest shade.

See the Seraphine styles loved by celebs

Loved by fashion icons, models and designers alike; this fabulously ubiquitous shade is just as likely to be spotted behind the scenes and out on the streets at fashion week as strutting down the runways. Soft, luxurious and never showy; Grey has become the ultimate expression of understated chic. The new neutral; grey is a fashion designer’s dream as it flatters every skin tone, and is guaranteed to bring out the best in any other colour you pair it with. Whether it’s black and white, rich jewel tones, bright neons or pastels; you won’t go wrong if you pair it with grey.

And this is not just a fashion phenomenon – grey is dominating modern design. From sleek Apple technology in silver to deep smokey walls splashed over the pages of glossy interior design mags and even the notorious top selling book of the decade so far – 50 Shades of Grey!

Almost without our noticing it, grey has made a stealthy transition from a nondescript kind of non-colour symbolising all things dull, drab and boring, to a true fashion shade coveted by the most stylish people on the planet.  Here at Seraphine we can’t get enough of this gorgeous grey trend – you only have to take a quick look through our collections to find maternity styles in every shade from the lightest cloud to the deepest inky slate. Here are a few of our favourites:

The grey skinny jeans

The monochrome crosshatch maternity dress

The wool & cashmere coat

The wool & cashmere wrap cardigan

The snood nursing jumper

The long line jumper

Now that grey has got your attention, how will you incorporate this chicest of all shades into your maternity style?

Royal Baby Number Two – Style Must Haves For Second Time Mamas!

Huge congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who have announced this week that they are expecting their second baby!

It seems like just yesterday that the eyes of the world were fixed on the Lindo Wing doors waiting for news of the royal baby. So we can hardly believe that 1 year old George, already quite the little Prince Charming, is going to be a big brother!

As with last time, the royal couple are likely to keep us guessing as to whether we’ll be getting a new little prince or a little princess, so we’ll just have to wait and see. We think George will make a great big brother, but we’ll be interested to see how he takes to sharing the limelight.

Shop the Polka Dot Dress

Second pregnancies tend to be a very different experience to the first. This time you are not only sharing this special time with your partner, but also with your older child! Though you may have less time now, in many ways the second pregnancy will be more relaxed as you’ll have a clearer idea of how everything works, and there’ll be no first time jitters to contend with.

Shop the Grey Skinny Maternity Jeans

The second time around, your bump is likely to show earlier than last time, so the second pregnancy is the time to really embrace your new curves! You will have spent your first pregnancy experimenting with maternity clothes and figuring out which styles work for you, so now you’ll be prepared to make the most of this time. With the knowledge and confidence gained from last time, you can build your maternity wardrobe with confidence and look fabulous through pregnancy!

Style must-haves for second time mums:

Maternity jeans – super stylish, and perfect for running around after your eldest

Maternity dresses – opt for bump-hugging styles to make the most of your new curves

A long cardigan – to keep you cosy and disguise your bump in the early stages

Horizontal stripes – choose striped tops and jumpers to flatter your growing figure

Shop the striped jumper

We have no doubt that Kate will sail through this pregnancy with her usual grace and style, and cant’ wait to see how she updates her maternity look the second time around. If you love style watching and trend spotting as much as we do, check out Whatkatewore.com for the latest insider info.

5 Style Tips for New Mums – by What to Expect Editor Kim Conte

Kim Conte is the editor at WhattoExpect.com – the online home of global pregnancy franchise – What to Expect When You’re Expecting, where you’ll find expert advice and mum to mum tips on everything from preconception to potty training and beyond! Kim lives in New York with her husband and new baby daughter Ida.

I absolutely love being a mum. But my life isn’t baby coos and cuddles all day long – for every wonderful moment you have as a parent, there’s a stressful one right around the corner! It’s all part of the journey, I try to remind myself.

One thing I decided early on that I wasn’t going to stress about was how I looked postpartum.  I have enough new mum friends to know that for most women the pounds don’t immediately come off in those first few months (and even in the second few months), and there are other changes that happen to your body that take a while to bounce back from, too.

The way I saw it I had two options: I could put a lot of worry and energy into trying to get my body back to how it was before pregnancy. Or, I could embrace my new body – using it as a fun opportunity to experiment with my style — and spend that energy somewhere else. Here are the 5 ways I’ve tweaked my style since having my little girl:

1) Easy access

First things first, I’m breastfeeding, so most things I wear now must offer easy access to the food supply. I have a few nursing tops and dresses that I’m in most frequently (including this sparkly striped Seraphine nursing tunic). But I’ve also gotten creative with easy-to-slip-off-the-shoulder tanks under a floral shawl or fitted jacket and cute slouchy tees with wide yokes that I can just pull down when she’s hungry.

2) No underwire

Shop Maternity Lingerie

And while we’re on the topic of breastfeeding, I should mention that I’ve had to rid my lingerie drawer of underwire bras — because they’re way too uncomfortable – and find other ways to support the girls. It used to be that finding a pretty (or dare I say it, sexy) nursing bra was an impossible task; but these days there are more options. I love my black Seraphine nursing bra with the lace trim and I’ve found some other nice ones in Nordstrom’s lingerie department, too.

3) Less is more

Before pregnancy my closet was bursting at the seams with old-time favourites, trends and one-hit wonders to match my every mood. These days I don’t have a lot of time to get ready in the morning, so it’s a lot more edited: I have a lot fewer items now, but every piece is carefully chosen and fits me well.

4) Fun makeup!

What do I do to pass all the time I spend pumping breast milk when I’m away from my baby? Well, I have a new guilty pleasure: watching makeup tutorials on YouTube! Then, on those days when I’m not feeling my best, I’ll experiment with a new lipstick or shimmery eye shadow to draw attention away from my problem areas (at least that’s what I tell myself to feel better!).

5) Embrace the curves

Shop Nursing Knitwear

My go-to look pre-pregnancy was skinny jeans and tailored tops. Now, instead of trying to squeeze myself into fitted clothes, I’ve welcomed the opportunity to try more relaxed styles. I’ve been wearing distressed boyfriend jeans with airy tunics on the weekends and a black romper for date nights. It’s been fun to break out of my usual clothing routine – plus, it allows me to set a good example for my daughter by showing her how to flaunt what you have (instead of being stressed about what you don’t).

Graphic Design

Shop Seraphine Maternity Dresses

The must-have dress for AW14 is without a doubt the graphic printed number! These bold graphic designs are set to make a big impression this season, and were seen at runway shows from Diane von Furstenberg to Acne and Giambattista Valli! Work the trend for yourself in our beautiful Graphic Printed Maternity Dress!

Supersize my Knits

Shop Seraphine Knitwear

Knitwear ruled the runway this season with top to toe ribbed knit outfits by Celine, oversized cardigans at Michael Kors, and Super sized jumpers with statement cowl necklines from Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s line The Row. Get the look with our cosy Maternity Coatigan.

Monochrome

Shop the Bump Kit

A classic look in black and white will always be chic, and this season it’s on trend too! On the runways we saw androgynous tailored suits at Christopher Kane & Victoria Beckham; all the fashion houses seemed to unite in a love of sleek black and white ensembles. Invest in the Seraphine Bump Kit this season to form the basis of your chic monochrome look!

Statement Outerwear

Shop Seraphine Outerwear

No autumn winter fashion show would be complete without a statement winter coat, and this season is no exception! We love Philip Lim’s multicoloured patchwork fur coats (for more on this furry trend check out Bethan Holt’s fabulous post on Fashion Editor at Large, and to work the trend try our Olive Green Faux Fur Scarf)! And if the fashion statement you want to make isn’t quite so colourful and fuzzy, the XXL maxi coat is also having a fashion moment, cropping up everywhere from Christian Dior to Emporio Armani!

The Trophy Poncho

Shop Seraphine Cover Ups

Christopher Bailey ended the Burberry show by sending each of his models down the runway in their own personalised Burberry blanket poncho; almost single handedly guaranteeing that the poncho will be the trophy piece of the season! Get the look with our Striped bamboo Nursing Shawl or make it monochrome with our Black Knitted Maternity Cape.

Here at Seraphine, celebrity style spotting is our guilty pleasure! We make it our mission to keep you up to date with the latest celebrity baby news, and the hottest Hollywood fashion trends.

This season we have our eyes on a seriously glamorous line up of ladies, and we can’t wait to see how their pregnancy styles evolve:

Kimberly Wyatt

Former Pussycat Doll and Got to Dance judge Kimberly Wyatt is one of the expectant stars to keep an eye on for fashion inspiration this season. Ever a trend setter, Kimberly loves to experiment with her style, and looks fabulous in bold prints and edgy monochromes. As a dancer and choreographer, Kimberly is very aware of how to present her body at it’s best, and flaunts her shape in sexy bodycon styles.

We cant’ wait to see her embrace her new curves, and think she’d look fantastic in our bodycon  Graphic Maternity Dress.

Milla Jovovich

The stunning actress Milla Jovovich revealed last month that she and her director husband Paul Anderson are expecting their second baby – a little brother or sister for 6 year older Ever Gabo. When Milla isn’t busy shooting guns and kicking ass starring in sci-fi horror franchise Resident Evil, she rules the red carpet, and gives her flair for fashion free reign! When she’s off duty, this stylish mum rocks a bohemian inspired look wearing wide leg jeans with flowing tops and scarves. And for the red carpet she vamps up the style in glamorous floor length, off the shoulder gowns.

We think she’d love our brand new boyfriend jeans for a chic relaxed look.

Shakira

Another stylish celebrity mum to watch this season is Columbian songstress Shakira! One of the most successful women in pop, Shakira and her footballer husband Gerard Pique are expecting their second baby – a little brother or sister for their toddler Milan. Shakira is a world renowned performer and philanthropist, and is recognised the world over for her inimitable sense of style – rock n roll with a latin boho twist and always glamorous!

10 Pregnancy Perks You’ll Miss Once Your Baby is Born

Towards the end of your pregnancy, it’s only natural to get a little restless. You’ve waited almost 9 months to meet your little bundle of joy, and now the big day can’t come soon enough!

But however excited you are to meet the little one, be careful not to wish away this special time! Today we’re rounding up all the fabulous little things about being pregnant that you may not realize you’ll miss until it’s over.

Here’s a list of our top ten perks of being pregnant:

1)      Having a Secret

Nothing beats having a juicy secret – and as secrets go, a baby is a biggie! Many couples choose to keep their pregnancies a secret to begin with; then later on you can tease friends and family by keeping them guessing about the gender!

2)      Smiles From Total Strangers

As soon as your pregnancy begins to show, you may find that people become very friendly all of a sudden! Strangers will start to smile at you on the street, other mothers may give you knowing looks, and people will start to give up their seats for you. Smile back and enjoy it – you’re spreading joy!

3)      Guilt-Free Naps

As you may be all too aware, growing a baby takes a lot out of a girl! During pregnancy, catching 40 winks during the day is not just allowed, but practically prescribed! Take advantage of a sneaky guilt-free nap whenever and wherever the mood takes you and stock up on sleep while you can!

Check out Missy Lanning and Mama Natural‘s top ten

4)      Eating for Two

This may well be the only time in your life when putting on weight is the goal – so enjoy that extra chocolate brownie – you deserve it! What to Expect recommend that you get an extra 300 calories per day during the first trimester, an extra 350 per day through the second and a completely decadent 500 extra calories per day through your third trimester. So go ahead and indulge those pregnancy cravings – you’re growing a little person!

5)      Stylish Maternity Clothes

No restrictive waistbands or nasty harsh fabrics here! Good quality maternity clothes are specifically designed to be gentle against sensitive skin; so they will be some of the softest, most comfortable clothes you will ever have the pleasure to wear. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be compromising on style – At Seraphine all of our maternity clothes are designed with a focus on fashion, so that you can continue to work your signature style throughout pregnancy.

6)      Being the Center of Attention

Everyone knows that being pregnant makes you just a little bit special! Suddenly you are the center of attention and everyone wants to know how you’re feeling, carry your bags and offer you a seat. Make the most of all the love and attention now, because we all know who’s going to be hogging the limelight once baby arrives!

7)      Pregnancy Brain

You probably won’t miss those days when you run out of the house without your handbag, forget where you parked your car and end up missing appointments left, right and centre…. But you may well miss being able to blame these little scatter-brained instances on being pregnant!

Shop Maternity Clothes

8)      Shopping

So many adorable baby things to buy and so little time! Whether you’re kitting out the nursery, deliberating over buggies, going gooey over teeny tiny baby booties or treating yourself to a stylish new pair of  Seraphine maternity jeans; relax and enjoy the retail therapy.

9)      Beauty Bonus

All those extra hormones racing around your body may have you in tears for no apparent reason, but they do have their up-sides. Your hair may be thicker and a little more lustrous than usual, or you may notice that your skin begins to glow, and you will almost certainly notice a little extra va-va-voom in the bra department! Just a few little beauty perks to expect while you’re expecting.

10)   Taking Part in the Miracle of Life

It may sound cheesy, but your pregnancy is incredibly special. You are creating a whole new little person and bringing them into the world! This is something that not everybody gets to do in their lives, and it’s an experience to cherish.
