Royal Baby Number Two – Style Must Haves For Second Time Mamas!

Huge congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who have announced this week that they are expecting their second baby!

It seems like just yesterday that the eyes of the world were fixed on the Lindo Wing doors waiting for news of the royal baby. So we can hardly believe that 1 year old George, already quite the little Prince Charming, is going to be a big brother!

As with last time, the royal couple are likely to keep us guessing as to whether we’ll be getting a new little prince or a little princess, so we’ll just have to wait and see. We think George will make a great big brother, but we’ll be interested to see how he takes to sharing the limelight.

Shop the Polka Dot Dress

Second pregnancies tend to be a very different experience to the first. This time you are not only sharing this special time with your partner, but also with your older child! Though you may have less time now, in many ways the second pregnancy will be more relaxed as you’ll have a clearer idea of how everything works, and there’ll be no first time jitters to contend with.

Shop the Grey Skinny Maternity Jeans

The second time around, your bump is likely to show earlier than last time, so the second pregnancy is the time to really embrace your new curves! You will have spent your first pregnancy experimenting with maternity clothes and figuring out which styles work for you, so now you’ll be prepared to make the most of this time. With the knowledge and confidence gained from last time, you can build your maternity wardrobe with confidence and look fabulous through pregnancy!

Style must-haves for second time mums:

Maternity jeans – super stylish, and perfect for running around after your eldest

Maternity dresses – opt for bump-hugging styles to make the most of your new curves

A long cardigan – to keep you cosy and disguise your bump in the early stages

Horizontal stripes – choose striped tops and jumpers to flatter your growing figure

Shop the striped jumper

We have no doubt that Kate will sail through this pregnancy with her usual grace and style, and cant’ wait to see how she updates her maternity look the second time around. If you love style watching and trend spotting as much as we do, check out Whatkatewore.com for the latest insider info.

5 Style Tips for New Mums – by What to Expect Editor Kim Conte

Kim Conte is the editor at WhattoExpect.com – the online home of global pregnancy franchise – What to Expect When You’re Expecting, where you’ll find expert advice and mum to mum tips on everything from preconception to potty training and beyond! Kim lives in New York with her husband and new baby daughter Ida.

I absolutely love being a mum. But my life isn’t baby coos and cuddles all day long – for every wonderful moment you have as a parent, there’s a stressful one right around the corner! It’s all part of the journey, I try to remind myself.

One thing I decided early on that I wasn’t going to stress about was how I looked postpartum.  I have enough new mum friends to know that for most women the pounds don’t immediately come off in those first few months (and even in the second few months), and there are other changes that happen to your body that take a while to bounce back from, too.

The way I saw it I had two options: I could put a lot of worry and energy into trying to get my body back to how it was before pregnancy. Or, I could embrace my new body – using it as a fun opportunity to experiment with my style — and spend that energy somewhere else. Here are the 5 ways I’ve tweaked my style since having my little girl:

1) Easy access

First things first, I’m breastfeeding, so most things I wear now must offer easy access to the food supply. I have a few nursing tops and dresses that I’m in most frequently (including this sparkly striped Seraphine nursing tunic). But I’ve also gotten creative with easy-to-slip-off-the-shoulder tanks under a floral shawl or fitted jacket and cute slouchy tees with wide yokes that I can just pull down when she’s hungry.

2) No underwire

Shop Maternity Lingerie

And while we’re on the topic of breastfeeding, I should mention that I’ve had to rid my lingerie drawer of underwire bras — because they’re way too uncomfortable – and find other ways to support the girls. It used to be that finding a pretty (or dare I say it, sexy) nursing bra was an impossible task; but these days there are more options. I love my black Seraphine nursing bra with the lace trim and I’ve found some other nice ones in Nordstrom’s lingerie department, too.

3) Less is more

Before pregnancy my closet was bursting at the seams with old-time favourites, trends and one-hit wonders to match my every mood. These days I don’t have a lot of time to get ready in the morning, so it’s a lot more edited: I have a lot fewer items now, but every piece is carefully chosen and fits me well.

4) Fun makeup!

What do I do to pass all the time I spend pumping breast milk when I’m away from my baby? Well, I have a new guilty pleasure: watching makeup tutorials on YouTube! Then, on those days when I’m not feeling my best, I’ll experiment with a new lipstick or shimmery eye shadow to draw attention away from my problem areas (at least that’s what I tell myself to feel better!).

5) Embrace the curves

Shop Nursing Knitwear

My go-to look pre-pregnancy was skinny jeans and tailored tops. Now, instead of trying to squeeze myself into fitted clothes, I’ve welcomed the opportunity to try more relaxed styles. I’ve been wearing distressed boyfriend jeans with airy tunics on the weekends and a black romper for date nights. It’s been fun to break out of my usual clothing routine – plus, it allows me to set a good example for my daughter by showing her how to flaunt what you have (instead of being stressed about what you don’t).

Former Pussycat Doll and Got to Dance judge Kimberly Wyatt is one of the expectant stars to keep an eye on for fashion inspiration this season. Ever a trend setter, Kimberly loves to experiment with her style, and looks fabulous in bold prints and edgy monochromes. As a dancer and choreographer, Kimberly is very aware of how to present her body at it’s best, and flaunts her shape in sexy bodycon styles.

We cant’ wait to see her embrace her new curves, and think she’d look fantastic in our bodycon  Graphic Maternity Dress.

When she’s off duty, this stylish mum rocks a bohemian inspired look wearing wide leg jeans with flowing tops and scarves. And for the red carpet she vamps up the style in glamorous floor length, off the shoulder gowns.

We think she’d love our brand new boyfriend jeans for a chic relaxed look.

10 Pregnancy Perks You’ll Miss Once Your Baby is Born

Towards the end of your pregnancy, it’s only natural to get a little restless. You’ve waited almost 9 months to meet your little bundle of joy, and now the big day can’t come soon enough!

But however excited you are to meet the little one, be careful not to wish away this special time! Today we’re rounding up all the fabulous little things about being pregnant that you may not realize you’ll miss until it’s over.

Here’s a list of our top ten perks of being pregnant:

1)      Having a Secret

Nothing beats having a juicy secret – and as secrets go, a baby is a biggie! Many couples choose to keep their pregnancies a secret to begin with; then later on you can tease friends and family by keeping them guessing about the gender!

2)      Smiles From Total Strangers

As soon as your pregnancy begins to show, you may find that people become very friendly all of a sudden! Strangers will start to smile at you on the street, other mothers may give you knowing looks, and people will start to give up their seats for you. Smile back and enjoy it – you’re spreading joy!

3)      Guilt-Free Naps

As you may be all too aware, growing a baby takes a lot out of a girl! During pregnancy, catching 40 winks during the day is not just allowed, but practically prescribed! Take advantage of a sneaky guilt-free nap whenever and wherever the mood takes you and stock up on sleep while you can!

Check out Missy Lanning and Mama Natural‘s top ten

4)      Eating for Two

This may well be the only time in your life when putting on weight is the goal – so enjoy that extra chocolate brownie – you deserve it! What to Expect recommend that you get an extra 300 calories per day during the first trimester, an extra 350 per day through the second and a completely decadent 500 extra calories per day through your third trimester. So go ahead and indulge those pregnancy cravings – you’re growing a little person!

5)      Stylish Maternity Clothes

No restrictive waistbands or nasty harsh fabrics here! Good quality maternity clothes are specifically designed to be gentle against sensitive skin; so they will be some of the softest, most comfortable clothes you will ever have the pleasure to wear. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be compromising on style – At Seraphine all of our maternity clothes are designed with a focus on fashion, so that you can continue to work your signature style throughout pregnancy.

6)      Being the Center of Attention

Everyone knows that being pregnant makes you just a little bit special! Suddenly you are the center of attention and everyone wants to know how you’re feeling, carry your bags and offer you a seat. Make the most of all the love and attention now, because we all know who’s going to be hogging the limelight once baby arrives!

7)      Pregnancy Brain

You probably won’t miss those days when you run out of the house without your handbag, forget where you parked your car and end up missing appointments left, right and centre…. But you may well miss being able to blame these little scatter-brained instances on being pregnant!

Shop Maternity Clothes

8)      Shopping

So many adorable baby things to buy and so little time! Whether you’re kitting out the nursery, deliberating over buggies, going gooey over teeny tiny baby booties or treating yourself to a stylish new pair of  Seraphine maternity jeans; relax and enjoy the retail therapy.

9)      Beauty Bonus

All those extra hormones racing around your body may have you in tears for no apparent reason, but they do have their up-sides. Your hair may be thicker and a little more lustrous than usual, or you may notice that your skin begins to glow, and you will almost certainly notice a little extra va-va-voom in the bra department! Just a few little beauty perks to expect while you’re expecting.

10)   Taking Part in the Miracle of Life

It may sound cheesy, but your pregnancy is incredibly special. You are creating a whole new little person and bringing them into the world! This is something that not everybody gets to do in their lives, and it’s an experience to cherish.

Get Creative – Celebrate Pregnancy in Art, Fashion, Movement & Music

Your nine months of pregnancy is a totally unique and special time in your life – your creative body is achieving something utterly remarkable, and you are playing a part in the miracle of life! It’s mind boggling when you stop to think about what is actually happening – so enjoy it, celebrate it and capture the moment in the best way you know how!

Get inspired and celebrate your creative body in art, fashion, movement & music:

Art

One of the most popular ways of capturing those beautiful new curves is to organise a pregnancy photo shoot. Check out our photo-tastic Pinterest board for some ideas and inspiration for your own – however you decide to go about it, you’ll come away with some beautiful images to keep for years to come.

Or if you’re looking for a more unusual option, why not explore the weird and wonderful world of Belly casting – creating a plaster cast replica of your baby bump as a cool art project, and a physical reminder of the changes your amazing body went through.

Dance & Movement

Staying active throughout your nine months is great for you and for baby, and dance can be a wonderful way of staying in tune with your body at a time when it’s easy to feel out of control. Stunning Dutch super model Doutzen Kroes enjoyed ballet classes throughout her pregnancy and found that her Seraphine maternity leggings were perfect for dancing in!

And just check out this inspiring acrobatic mama who carried on with her trapeze training until she hit the 39 week mark!

Shop Seraphine Maternity Leggings

Fashion

Having fun with fashion is a fantastic way to celebrate your blossoming body every single day. It’s a simple thing, but taking the time to put together outfits that flaunt & flatter your shape will provide a welcome lift to your day. Beautiful maternity lingerie is a great place to start for an instant confidence boost, then try a form fitting style in a fun pattern that emphasises your empire waist line – our brand new Polka Dot Asymmetric Twist Dress is perfect! Finish off the look with your favourite accessories, then get out there and strut your stuff!

Writing

If you’re more of a literary type, writing about your experience of pregnancy can be incredibly therapeutic. You could keep a pregnancy journal and document your thoughts, feelings and hopes for baby’s future as well as keeping a record of pregnancy mile stones like the first scan and the first time you feel baby kick.

Or if you’re feeling particularly inspired, you could even pen a pregnancy poem like this empowering piece recently shared by one of our Seraphine mummies:

Be Proud - Shop Seraphine Swimwear

Music

If you or your partner are blessed with a musical streak, writing a song to celebrate the new life you’re creating together could be a really wonderful thing to do. Back in March Tom and Giovanna Fletcher welcomed their son Buzz, and celebrated his arrival by recording an original song penned by the proud new daddy (who, when he isn’t on nappy changing duty, is the lead vocalist and guitarist of McFly)!

Celebrity Stylist Kimberly Lavey’s 6 Top Tips for Styling Your Bump

Kimberly Lavey is a freelance Online Fashion Editor and Celebrity Stylist working on Strictly Come Dancing. She spends her days dressing stars such as Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, and Dame Kelly Holmes, styling commercial shoots for the likes of L’Oreal, and writing/ editing for online publications such as InStyle, LOOK, and Marie Claire amongst others… Follow her on Twitter @Stylistatlarge

It’s hard to believe that I have just reached the 16 week mark of my first pregnancy. It feels like an eternity ago that my husband and I first found out our exciting news and now hitting my second trimester, the reality that a baby will arrive in less than 6 months is finally starting to set in! However, with all the nervousness there is of course excitement, coupled with worry, raging hormones, fatigue, headaches, mood swings and nausea; just a few of the early symptoms which, so I’ve been told, are perfectly normal.

Due to my miniature size (I’m 5’ 1”) I showed super early and now have quite a rotund tummy when other expectant mothers’ belly’s still appear to be flat. But there is of course a silver lining: With my insider fashion knowledge I am aware of what will work for my body shape and others’, so here are my top tips for surviving early pregnancy with a telling bump…

1) Picking the Perfect Underwear

Just as my body is expanding, so too is my wardrobe; gone is the sexy underwear and in are the super comfy pants! Just remember that throughout pregnancy it is imperative to make sure you get measured regularly as your bust and derriere will (sorry to say) widen during this period of time, and having correct underwear will be key to feeling snug in any outfit.

2) Maternity Jeans

You will also need a pair of perfect go-to maternity jeans or leggings that help keep you comfortable all day when shopping or spending time friends: this also includes casual Friday’s at work and especially on long drives during a mid-summer break.

Shop the Green Glitter Nursing Top

3) Managing your Shape and Bump

I love maxi dresses, which are lightweight and show off your expanding tum perfectly and are flattering on all shapes and sizes. You can also try swing style tops in A-line shapes and elasticated dresses which nip you in at the empire waist. But of course don’t be afraid to show your bump off by wearing form fitting dresses, tunics and work wear.

4) Cover Up in a Kimono This season the style du jour that all the celebs are adorning is the kimono – therefore choose a colourful print to wear with a skinny belt, jeans and heels if dressing up at night or throw on over a dress or shorts for hot summer days.

5) Dressing for an Occasion

Just as pregnant model Ashleigh Good hit the runway for couture week in July (you can thank Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel) you too can emulate the perfect maternity look with a range of luxe dresses for less. Let your pièce de résistance be a jewel coloured gown (ruby red is set to be on-trend for AW14) which will help get you noticed in a sea of LBD’s this coming winter.

6) Look After the Skin You’re in

Last but definitely not least is to treat yourself to a nourishing body butter or oil such as Elemis Japanese Camellia Body Oil (Victoria Beckham swears by it; £29.50 for 100ml), Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil (£39 for 100ml) and of course Bio Oil (from £5.99 for 60ml); they may be pricey but are 100% natural and will help firm and tone the elasticity of your skin and prevent stretch marks from appearing.

My final piece of advice for any worrying mums-to-be (just like me) is to purchase Heidi Murkoff’s best selling book “What to expect when you’re expecting. Jam packed with helpful hints and tips, plus week by week analysis of baby growth, an A-Z index which covers every scenario plus parent-to-be tips, how to cope post-pregnancy and a section for dads – it really has been my baby bible and worth a read at any stage of pregnancy.

Twins & Celebrity Babies: Double the trouble, triple the fun!

We want to talk about Twins. The arrival of a new baby in the family is always an incredibly special time, so just imagine what it’s like to have two, three or even more at once – we’re thinking double the trouble, triple the fun!

With one in every 65 pregnancies resulting in a multiple birth, twins and triplets are on the rise right now, and the celebs – as always – are on top of the trend! Both Beyoncé & Jay Z and Amal & George Clooney are getting set to welcome twins this year, joining the already glamorous list of celebrity parents with twins including Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie to name but a few…

Twins celebrity babies

And of course a fair few of these stylish celebrity twin mamas have rocked Seraphine maternity clothes! ‘Devious Maids’ star Dania Ramirez chose one of our silk maternity dresses for her baby shower back when she was expecting her non-identical twins John and Gaia.

A post shared by Dania Ramirez (@daniajramirez) on

Stunning Spanish actress Elsa Pataky was a big fan of Seraphine knitwear while she was expecting her fraternal twin boys Tristan and Sacha. We love this picture of her husband, Thor actor Chris Hemsworth playing super heroes with his boys!

Holly Branson, the daughter of entrepreneur extraordinaire Richard Branson, is mama to twins Etta and Artie. She wore plenty of Seraphine maternity clothes throughout her pregnancy, and loved our Faux Leather Panel Maternity Leggings so much that she continued wearing them after the babies were born.

If you are a mama expecting multiples, you may find that your bump begins to show earlier than your friends expecting singletons – sometimes as early as 10 weeks, so finding maternity clothes quickly becomes a priority! Shopping for maternity clothes online is an ideal option if you’re still suffering with first trimester queasiness, and here at Seraphine we offer free returns on all UK orders!

Check out more adorable multiples on Pinterest

One thing that all mamas of multiples agree on is that though twins mean a double work load, they also mean double the fun. There’s nothing like watching your twins’ bond strengthen as they grow. They’ll learn to play together, enjoying each other’s company, sharing toys, and even working together to get around mummy & daddy!

You also get to be a part of hilarious moments like this!

To all the expectant multiple mums out there, we salute you, and wish you the best of luck for your coming adventures!

Back in 2014 Actress Olivia Wilde took the internet by storm with her stunning breastfeeding photo shoot for Glamour Magazine. The shoot was set in a retro style diner, and showed the new mum looking gorgeous in a designer dress as she proudly breastfed her baby son Otis.

The images portray Olivia as a multifaceted woman in her new role as a mother. She told Glamour: “Breastfeeding is the most natural thing…. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed. [But] I mean, I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breast-feeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.”
