Celebrating 15 Years of Maternity Style with Seraphine

This November, Seraphine turns 15 years old…that’s 15 whole years’ worth of fantastic maternity style! This month, we’re looking back on some of our most memorable moments, from 2002 until today…

Seraphine: Maternity Style to the Stars

Celebrities love Seraphine

From the beginning, Seraphine was a hit with pregnant celebrities like Elle Macpherson & Claudia Schiffer. Since then, the brand has developed a celebrity following to rival the hottest Hollywood party, including big names like Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, Anne Hathaway & Marion Cottilard to name but a few!

Regal Maternity Style

One of our proudest moments came in 2013, when the Duchess of Cambridge graced the world’s front pages wearing our Fuchsia Knot Front Maternity Dress for her first official pictures with Prince George!

Then we were honoured when she chose our maternity clothes again while expecting Princess Charlotte, wearing our Marina Maternity Coat on her arrival in New York, and our Natasha Cashmere blend coat for a royal appearance in London.

Maternity Fashion Innovations

Seraphine maternity fashion innovations

Seraphine has been innovating right from the start. From our brand new take on maternity jeans back in 2002, to our best-selling 3 in 1 maternity parkas and the matching Men’s Parka with detachable baby-wearing pouch.

Seraphine Maternity Stores

Seraphine maternity stores

From London to New York, Paris, Hong Kong & Dubai, our maternity stores can be found in the world’s top fashion capitals.

From opening our very first maternity store in Kensington back in 2002, to launching our latest store in Paris just this summer, our aim is the same: to provide stylish & comfortable maternity clothes for fashion-forward mums-to-be.

An Award-Winning Maternity Brand

Seraphine maternity awards

Seraphine has won numerous industry awards over the years, including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2015 and the Best Multichannel Etailer at the PayPal Etail Awards in 2014. The brand has also been featured on the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list for the last 3 years running!

Thank You!

To all of our wonderful customers, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for being with us on this journey, and for choosing Seraphine to join you on yours at such a special time in your life. Each and every success, however big or small is dedicated to you – our wonderful mamas-to-be.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is Stunning in Seraphine Luxe

This week we have been delighted to see Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden enjoying her new Seraphine wardrobe!

Last week the Princess chose our Polka Dot Silk Maternity Dress to attended a meeting of the International Paralympic Committee at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg. Victoria’s elegant silk dress was the perfect choice for the sumptuous surroundings, and she looked ultra-stylish as she discussed next year’s Paralympic Games with other European Royals including Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, Prince Albert of Monaco and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.

This week the Crown Princess kicked off her official visit to South America, and we were delighted to see her wearing another bespoke Seraphine maternity dress on her arrival in Lima! Victoria looked stunning in the smart red style to greet crowds and to meet the Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

This Wednesday she wore another Seraphine Luxe maternity dress out to dinner in Colombia with her husband Prince Daniel. This beautiful corn flower blue style in silk and lace comes from our SS16 collection, and will be available for purchase in the new year. In the mean time though, the navy version – the Silk and Lace Special Occasion Dress – is available now in our LUXE collection.

Of course this all comes after Princess Victoria’s stunning appearance at her nephew Prince Nicolas’ christening in a bespoke Seraphine maternity dress. The Seraphine purple set off her radiant pregnancy glow perfectly, and the smart empire peplum flattered her figure.

The Princess loved the style so much that she wore it again, along with the matching bespoke Seraphine coat on Thursday evening to meet with the Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Calderon.

Look Mag Assistant Editor Claire Sanderson talks Maternity Style

Glamorous mama Claire Sanderson is the assistant editor at Look magazine, who describes herself as a Valley girl done good! Mum to 2 year old cutie Zak with another one on the way, we caught up with Claire to find out how she’s been styling her bump for the office.

1)      Describe your day to day style

I’m all about simple yet knockout dresses and love a printed, vintage find. Pre pregnancy I’m a curvy size 12 with a narrow waist and wide hips so I’m a big fan of nipped in waistlines – the classic tea dress is my ultimate cut. I also prefer a midi length to balance out my hips. I rarely, in fact never, wear jeans or trousers. Even on the weekend you’ll find me in a dress with nice flats and a cross the body bag.

2)      Did you stay true to your style during pregnancy?

Yes, definitely. I’ve worn more plain dresses as opposed to lots of prints, but my waist, although higher, has remained comparatively small to my ever growing hips and bottom so the fit and flare style still suits me best.

3)      How did being pregnant affect your work wardrobe?

To be honest, it didn’t. I’ve just worn different dresses, but with flats rather than amazing heels. One of my colleagues paid me a lovely compliment recently saying I’d worn my pregnancy well and always dressed appropriately for the office.  I’ve tried to keep my wardrobe elegant, even when it’s the last thing I actually feel.

4)      What was your favourite Seraphine piece?

I love the navy pleated dress. It’s so comfortable, a must for expectant mums. The three quarter length sleeves are very flattering and the midi length is perfect to accommodate a growing bump without the hem riding up and becoming too short. The belt detail below the bust line exentuates what is still my slimmest area leaving me feeling confident and ready to take on the work day.

5)      Any top tips to share with pregnant mums?

Pregnancy shouldn’t change who you are or your style, but obviously adjustments have to be made. When it became apparent that I was a liability in heels – my balance and spatial awareness seem to have all but disappeared – I bought a couple of pairs of great flats. I’d also advise investing in key maternity pieces that you can rotate and accessorise differently. Finally, don’t be too hard on yourself. No one is expecting you to look amazing every day.

Choose Your Dream Cot with The Baby Cot Shop

The Baby Cot Shop is an upmarket retailer of baby and children’s furniture and room décor. They’ve been featured in Vogue, Hello! & BBC Good Homes among others, and their impressive client list includes celebrities, presidents and even Middle Eastern royalty.

Their mission is to convert ordinary rooms into luxury whimsical spaces for children, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary and creating a haven of relaxation, tranquillity and creativity for children and parents alike.

The Baby Cot Shop is offering Seraphine blog readers an exclusive 10% off across their entire range through the month of October AND free delivery! Simply enter the code: Seraphine10 at the checkout to redeem the offer. This week on the blog, we’re handing you over to the experts at The Baby Cot Shop to help you select the perfect cot for your little angel.

Choosing a Luxury Cot for your Newborn

One of the most exciting projects you will undertake during pregnancy is creating your baby’s nursery. A quick look online will reveal the huge range of beautiful nursery furniture designs that are available. There are plenty of options out there, but your home décor and personal style will give you an indication of your preferred taste.

If you’re a fan of period décor you’d love The Marseille Cot. Choose baby bedding that is simple, yet rich in quality to match. Metallic wall paper would complement this cot perfectly, and you could even add a feature wall with a mural of baby’s name or an inspirational quote. We love these fairy tale stickers from Bambizi.

Seraphine recommends: The Woven Printed Maternity Dress

For a feminine look, opt for the Chelsea Luxury Cot. Choose soft furnishings in heavy silk and a neutral colour palette. The Layla Cot bedding features layers of soft fabric and will be a perfect choice for this cot. A lambskin rug will add a soft and delicate ambience to the room, and you can add a touch more glitz and glam with a generous lace canopy.

Seraphine recommends: The Cerise Dot Maternity Dress

The Belgravia Upholstered Cot is an ultra-functional option that’s perfect for small spaces. It’s compact and includes an integrated drawer for storing essentials – it even converts into a sofa when baby has grown out of it. Choose a space saving nursing chair to match like the Elias Nursery Glider Chair, which is compact, comfortable and luxurious.

Seraphine Recommends: The Striped Nursing Shift Dress

Clean and sturdy with an air of sophistication, the Eaton Cot is perfect for the contemporary nursery. Choose on trend baby bedding to go with this cot – our Chevron Retro Baby Bedding would be perfect. And if you are sticking with the geometric theme, you could finish off your nursery with one of our new geometric style rugs.

Seraphine recommends: Knitted Zig Zag Maternity Dress

Karolina Kurkova Stuns in Seraphine at Cindy Crawford’s Party

The stars were out in full force at Cindy Crawford’s Miami book launch this week, and stunning super model Karolina Kurkova looked ultra-chic in a pair of bright white Seraphine maternity jeans.

Celebrating the launch of her friend’s new memoir Becoming, Karolina cut a stunning figure in our cropped white maternity jeans. She put together a chic monochrome look with a matching white top, a contemporary statement blazer and a pair of cool blue and white brogues, accessorising with a pair of gorgeous drop earrings.

And this isn’t the first time that Karolina has rocked Seraphine… back at the start of the season she wore our Black Seamless Maternity Leggings to dash between shows at New York Fashion Week, styling them with a plain white tee and an Alexander Wang blazer.

Seraphine maternity jeans have long been a celebrity favourite; in fact the Seraphine denim boutique has a celebrity fan club to rival the hottest Hollywood party, including big names like Jessica Alba, Alicia Keys, Isla Fisher, Mila Kunis, Danni Minogue, Fearne Cotton and Olivia Wilde. Kate Winslet loved our Black Slim Leg Maternity Jeans so much she even wore them to walk the red carpet!

How will you work your Seraphine jeans?

Nearly Nude Nails – Meet Autumn’s Hottest Manicure Trend

After a summer of nail art fads which seemed to get progressively crazier as the season wore on (mermaid nails? bubble nails? aquarium nails???) we’re pleased to report that the latest big thing takes a rather more classy approach.

Mamas, allow us to introduce the naked manicure! In neutral shades of light pink, camel and apricot, this trend is all about showing off healthy, natural looking nails.

But nude nails don’t have to be boring! We’ve taken inspiration from the AW15 catwalks to bring you our top 3 ways to work the trend & the perfect maternity dresses to match:

 1) Subtle Sparkles

From dots of bronze sparkle at Jenny Packham to a thin stripe of gold glitter at Delpozo and a chic cross detail just for the ring finger at Erin Fetherston, designers found clever ways to enhance the natural beauty of the nails with just a little touch of glitter. We love this look – it’s the perfect way to work the trend without giving up your glitz!

Work it with: Gold Sequin Maternity Dress

 2) Negative Space

Another way to make the nude nail trend your own is to experiment with negative space. Tibi put a new twist on the classic French manicure creating stylishly angled white tips, and we love the subtle window pane style at Suno – just a few simple white lines against an all-natural base coat.

Work it with: Knitted A Line Maternity Dress

 3) Pop of Colour

And finally, if totally nude nails just aren’t your style, why not try livening up the look with a splash of colour. We love the blue applique squares at Cushnie et Ochs, and the vibrant red and orange outlines at Tracy Reese set off the nude base perfectly.

Michelle Saunders, the lead manicurist at Rebecca Minkoff shared the secret of her AW15 runway look. She applied a base coat of Essie’s Mademoiselle, then layered shades of Berry Naughty & Midnight Cami in chevrons at the tip. She said:

“This is one of the easiest manicures you can do on yourself… The brush does all the work for you. The width of the stripe is the width of the brush – you’re doing a little X at the top of your nails with the red, then you follow the exact same pattern with the blue.”

Work it with: Printed Twist Maternity Dress

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Rocks Seraphine: Balloons, Obama & Madonna’s Bra

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has done it again! A firm fan of Seraphine, this week Sophie posted some stunning pics to Instagram, having fun at Madame Tussauds rocking one of our stylish maternity dresses.

A photo posted by @sophieellisbextor on

Sophie chose our Circle Print Maternity Dress to film her brand new documentary, getting up close and personal with the waxworks at Madame Tussauds! The UKTV documentary about celebrities and social media looks to be a lot of fun – she posted a selfie with YouTube sensation Zoella, laughed with President Obama and even tweaked Madonna’s infamous Vogue bra!

And earlier in the week she was spotted wearing the same dress, posing with a Baymax balloon at a Big Hero 6 themed birthday party. It is definitely her under there (we promise!) and, novelty balloon aside, the dress & Black Knitted Maternity Cape combo looked ultra-chic!

And this isn’t the first time Sophie has rocked it out in Seraphine… This week she’s helping us to launch our brand new charity campaign with TommysMore details here. And our maternity dresses are perfect for her classic retro vibe.

She wore both our Black and White Polka Dot Maternity Dress and our Black Zip Detail Maternity Dress to red carpet events earlier this year, and loved our Woven Printed Maternity Dress on holiday in Nice with a cool pair of cat eye sunglasses.

Sophie is one super stylish mama!

Seraphine Takes Asia: Live TV, Mandopop & Maternity Dresses

Here at Seraphine we pride ourselves on making maternity clothes that are loved by some of the most glamorous mamas on the planet. From Hollywood A-listers to British royalty, we’ve dressed women from all over the world, and this week we were thrilled to see two stylish Asian celebrities working it in Seraphine!

Chinese Mandopop singer He Jie posted these gorgeous pictures to her Chinese Twitter account, looking super cute in our Geo Print Maternity Wrap Dress. She balanced the chic monochrome style with a pop of colour, pairing it with a statement red hand bag and posing in front of a colourful vertical garden.

Meanwhile over in Japan, national news reader Takako Zenba has been styling it out in Seraphine maternity dresses live on TV. Like He Jie, Takako is a fan of the Geo Print Dress, and also looked super stylish in the Bubble Print Maternity Dress. She opted for a more classic look, styling the dresses with simple maternity camisoles and delicate silver jewellery.

Wherever in the world you are, we hope you’re enjoying styling your Seraphine!
