Life in the limelight isn’t always easy… Pursued by paparazzi and photographed at every opportunity, celebrity mums need to know how to look on point. Here they reveal some of the top beauty tips that help them put their best face forward every day of the week.

Gwen Stefani beauty tips

Gwen, mum to three boys Kingston (9), Zuma (7) and Apollo (2) is rarely seen without her signature red lip. She reveals that the secret to her colour’s staying power is layering! For those days when you only have 5 minutes to do your face, a splash of bright lipstick is a great way to lift your look and boost your mood.

For mum of two Jessica Alba, beauty comes from within. Drinking plenty of water through the day flushes toxins out of your body, which helps to clear your skin and maintain your natural glow well beyond pregnancy. Jessica’s daughters Honor & Haven are 8 and 5 now, and she is looking as radiant as ever, so she must be doing something right!

Stunning actress Kate Hudson is mum to two boys, Ryder (12) and Bingham (5) and believes the secret lies in the perfect eyebrows. Many of us can identify with the quest for beautiful brows – and whether you pluck, wax, thread, brush or fill your way to perfection, there’s no denying the impact it can have on your look. A good quality eyebrow kit is a great beauty investment.

5. All Natural

“Whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed in your body. So for my skin care, I try to use everything that’s natural.” – Karolina Kurkova

For super model Karolina Kurkova, mum to 6 year old Tobin and 5 month old Noah, natural products are essential. She explains that she spends so much of her time wearing makeup for her job, that on her down time she likes to use only natural, chemical-free products. This is a great guideline for pregnancy, when your skin may be more sensitive than usual.

A great pair of eyelash curlers is the key for Super Model & former Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes. With an international modelling career and two young children to keep her busy, the ability to create instantly wide awake eyes must really come in handy! If you’ve had one of those nights, taking a minute to curl your lashes before you put on your mascara will really open up your eyes.

7. Cream Eyeliner

“My thing is eyeliner, where I make a wing with a cream liner and a brush instead of using liquid eyeliner, which I find kind of bleeds everywhere. This way it’s done, easy.” – Coco Rocha

Super model Coco Rocha, mum to one year old Ioni, has another tip for opening up tired eyes. Coco creates her signature winged cat eye look using cream eye liner rather than liquid. Applying cream eyeliner with a brush gives you plenty of control, and is a great middle ground between the bold lines of liquid eyeliner and soft smudgy kohl pencil.

8. Solid Skin Care

“Funnily enough it was my father who taught me from a young age to look after my skin. I never go to bed with my make-up on and have monthly triple oxygen facials.” – Katherine Jenkins

Classical singer and new mum Katherine Jenkins offers two great pieces of skin care advice. First; it’s a simple rule, which makes perfect sense – always remove makeup before bed. And second, if you can manage it, a monthly facial is a great way to ensure a radiant complexion. If you can’t make it to the spa, why not treat yourself to a relaxing face mask at home. Katherine welcomed her first daughter, Aaliyah in the summer and her glow is looking as lovely as ever.

Maternity Style with Pregnant Fashion Editor Amanda Marcantonio

Amanda Marcantonio is the Senior Fashion Editor for Good Housekeeping and Prima magazine and is currently 32 weeks pregnant with her first baby. Here she shares her top 3 maternity style tips and her 6 must-have pieces for dressing your baby-bump.

DON’T LOSE YOUR IDENTITY

If you only choose to follow one piece of advice, this should be it. Not looking like ‘me’ was one of my biggest fashion fears when I became pregnant. My personal style is classic with a cool, modern twist. I love leather, denim, layering, my high-top trainers, biker boots, stripes and a splash of leopard print and I was dreading having to wear floaty boho maternity clothes which are pretty but it’s just not me! After A LOT of maternity style research and some purchases from Seraphine (skinny jeans, Breton top and black pencil skirt), I realised you can easily find clothes that work with your new body without sacrificing your usual style.

PLAY WITH PROPORTION

Pregnant or not, I always tell my readers to balance proportions. Not only will it keep you looking modern and up-to-date, it’s also the ultimate in figure-flattering dressing. If you prefer looser tops or longer floaty tunics, pair with skinny jeans or tapered slim-fit trousers. If you feel comfy in roomy wide-leg trousers I’d recommend wearing it with a well-cut top to give your figure some shape and definition.

GET MORE MILEAGE FROM YOUR MATERNITY WEAR

Let’s face it, after months of wearing the same items over and over again, everyday outfits can become a little boring and predictable. So why not try reinventing your existing staple pieces by wearing them differently. Why wear a dress as a dress? It can double as a tunic and be layered over jeans or trousers. Try slipping a jumper or top over a dress which turns it instantly into a skirt. I’m also a big fan of long sleeves under short, rolling up the hem of your jeans, or pushing back sleeves and letting long sleeve T-shirts peep from under a jumper … there are endless ways to give old outfits a fashionable new twist.

INVEST IN THESE 6 STYLE STAPLES

Here’s my ultimate list of the best maternity style saviors – the hero pieces that have seen me through my pregnancy…

1) Jeans

Jeans shopping is notoriously tricky but when you’re pregnant it’s even harder. After trying on MANY pairs of jeans from different high street stores (it’s fair to say I’m a fussy jeans shopper), Seraphine under-the-bump skinny jeans have been my go-to style staple. But since reaching my third trimester I’ve switched to their over-the-bump skinny jeans for extra comfort and to wear post-baby. In reality, you’ll probably still wear maternity clothes for a good few months after your baby is born, so great quality maternity jeans are a wise investment.

2) White Long Sleeve T-shirt

The ultimate foundation piece for layering. Seek out a long-line T-shirt with flattering bump-friendly ruching around the tummy. The longer length means you can possibly wear some of your pre-pregnancy tops for a bit longer like I did and just let the T-shirt peep underneath. Wear on its own or layered under tops, dresses and jumpers, the humble long sleeve T-shirt will up the ante of simple outfits.

3) An LBD

A Little Black Maternity Dress is unbelievably versatile – I wear mine at least 3 times a week, if not more! I dress it down with boots and a leather jacket, glam it up with jewels, heels or embellished flats (if I can’t face heels) and I often wear it under a top or jumper. It’s so easy to transform from desk to dinner – it’s my ultimate maternity style winner.

4) Black Trousers or Leather Leggings

You simply can’t go wrong with a trusty pair of black trousers but if you want more of a fashion edge like I did, buy some faux leather leggings. I really don’t like my upper legs and thighs so I wear my leather leggings with long tops, jumper dresses and tunics – it keeps them cleverly covered!

5) Stripes

Stripes are my default purchase at any time in my life and they look just as chic when you’re pregnant. They’re effortlessly fashionable and make you look polished and pulled together without even trying, which is why they’re my pregnancy secret weapon. Why not double up and buy a Breton that’s a nursing top too?

6) Simple Skirt

A go-with-everything chic black pencil skirt is a must-buy. It’s your shortcut to staying stylish all pregnancy long. From weekdays to weekends, it can do both and will be one of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe. I personally wanted to embrace my new pregnancy shape which is why I love my Seraphine soft stretchy pencil skirt as it accentuates my tummy and keeps my silhouette streamlined.

Amy Davidson & Ashley Jones: Baby Shower Beautiful in Seraphine

Last weekend The Bold & The Beautiful star Ashley Jones celebrated her baby shower, and not one, but two of the stunning mamas in attendance rocked Seraphine maternity dresses!

Ashley looked beautiful in blue wearing our Ruched Maternity Dress. And her best friend 8 Simple Rules star Amy Davidson, who welcomed her son Lennox Sawyer Lockwood last month, rocked her new mum style in our Graphic Maternity Dress, proving that Seraphine styles are perfect before, during and after pregnancy.

Amy was a Seraphine fan throughout her pregnancy, and often looked stunning in Seraphine maternity dresses. This is one of our favourite shots, which she shared on her Instagram account shortly before the birth of her baby.

Meet the Maternity Dress Every Princess Wants to Wear

What do The Duchess of Cambridge, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Princess Sofia of Sweden all have in common? … Aside from being Princesses of course … the answer is the Seraphine Pleated Maternity Dress!

Princess Sofia of Sweden is the latest royal to fall for our elegant pleated dress, joining her sister-in-law Crown Princess Victoria, and The Duchess of Cambridge. We are thrilled that our navy dress has such a glamorous royal fan club, and it is wonderful to see how each Princess has styled the dress to suit her own personal look.

Princess Sofia

Princess Sofia, who is renowned for her fashionable looks, teamed the navy maternity dress with our Ivory Cropped Peplum Jacket for a meeting with UN ambassadors. She defined her empire waist with a smart self-tie belt and the overall contrast of navy and white brought a fresh touch to the trendy combo.

This isn’t the only Seraphine style that Sofia loves, she also wore our Striped Stretch Cotton Maternity Shirt to meet with business leaders earlier this month.

Crown Princess Victoria

Crown Princess Victoria let the dress do all the talking, adding just a clutch, a stylish pair of navy court shoes and some statement earrings as she welcomed Nobel Peace Prize winners to the royal palace in Stockholm.

Victoria, who welcomed her second child Prince Oscar earlier this month was a fan of Seraphine maternity wear throughout her pregnancy, commissioning several bespoke outfits for special occasions and choosing a selection of our Luxe Maternity Dresses for official royal engagements. She particularly loved our Bubble Print Maternity Dress, which she wore several times throughout her 9 months.

The Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge kept the dress under wraps when she wore it for a royal engagement last winter while expecting Princess Charlotte. She displayed her signature style and grace, pairing it with a long dress coat and heels. Of course the Duchess has a well known preference for Seraphine maternity clothes; she looked stunning in our Fuchsia Knot Front Maternity Dress in the first official pictures with Prince George, and favoured our maternity coats while expecting Princess Charlotte.

It is always wonderful when royals favour Seraphine maternity clothes, but to have three Princesses all choose the same dress is a huge honour.

Seraphine Maternity Mum’s Voice Award Winner – Leigh Kendall

The Tommy’s Awards is an annual event, held to celebrate those working to make a difference in the lives of families across the UK. This year Seraphine maternity was incredibly proud to sponsor the Mum’s Voice Award – a prize to honour one special mum with the courage to share her story, bringing hope and reassurance to others going through similar experiences. Allow us to introduce Leigh Kendall – blogger at www.headspace-perspective.com, health communication advocate and winner of the Mum’s Voice Award 2016….

1)      First off, congratulations! How does it feel to have won the Seraphine Maternity Mum’s Voice Award?

Thank you! Winning the Seraphine Mum’s Voice Award was a proud but bittersweet moment. I am proud that my writing and campaigning is making a difference, and that people are paying attention to it – but I would give it all back in an instant to have Hugo back in my arms.

The Tommy's Awards 2016

2)      Tell us about Hugo and Hugo’s legacy.

Hugo was born in February 2014, 16 weeks prematurely. He had to be born then because I had the rare, life-threatening pregnancy complications pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. The only cure is for the baby to be born, otherwise both mum and baby are likely to die. Hugo was a gorgeous, perfectly-formed little boy. He fought so hard and was pretty feisty, which earned him the nickname ‘Hugo Boss’ from his nurses. Sadly he died aged 35 days – he was too small, and premature. I am utterly heartbroken.

I started Hugo’s Legacy as a way of channelling my grief, and celebrating Hugo’s life. Hugo’s legacy focuses on raising awareness of HELLP syndrome (few people have heard of it; I didn’t know it existed until I was diagnosed); support for parents of premature babies, and for bereaved parents.

While nothing could have been done differently in terms of the care Hugo and I were given – nothing would have changed the outcome – there were many times when communication was insensitive or lacking, making a difficult time even more stressful. Helping health professionals understand the importance of effective communication is another key part of Hugo’s legacy.

Hugo weighed only 420 grams when he was born (about the same as a tin of baked beans). He shows that there is no footprint too small to leave an imprint on the world.

Headspace Perspective

3)      We love your blog Headspace Perspective. Do you feel that blogging has helped you? How?

Thank you so much! Blogging became my release after Hugo died. I was angry with the world, that this had happened to me, that I didn’t have Hugo. Writing about HELLP syndrome, about Hugo, and about life after his death was cathartic, especially as it was difficult to find support. As a proud though heartbroken mummy, I also use the blog to tell the world about my beautiful boy.

Headspace Perspective gave me a focus, a sense of purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. It has also introduced me to wonderful, kind, supportive people from all over the world.

4)      The style section of your blog is fantastic – how important is it to you to maintain your sense of style?

That’s brilliant, thank you! I’ve always loved clothes and style, but for many years lacked the confidence to wear the outfits I admired. After Hugo died (and my own close call with death) I realised life is too short and that I should just wear what I like and rock the outfits! For me, my style is about celebrating the beauty of life through wearing bright colour, and celebrating who I am. Maintaining my sense of style in my grief has also been about an act of self-care, telling myself I am worth the effort.

5)      A little bird told us that you have a favourite Seraphine maternity dress…

Yes that’s right! When I was pregnant I bought myself the knot front maternity dress in fuschia. It’s the one made famous by Kate Middleton in the first photo with Prince George. I love pink, and the cut and colour of the dress are so flattering. I loved wearing it, and admiring my growing bump in it. The dress got a lot of wear during Hugo’s life – it was easy to express my breast milk for Hugo while wearing it, and the bright colour brought a bit of joy to my day. I also wore the dress to Hugo’s funeral – we had asked our guests to wear bright colours in celebration of his life.

6)      Can you sum up your signature look in 3 words?

Colourful, classic, and curvy!

7)      We are confiscating your makeup bag – you’re allowed to keep 3 essential cosmetics. What do you choose?

Ooh that’s scary, I love my make-up! I think my three most essential items would be a tinted moisturiser, mascara, and lip balm.

8)      Who inspires you?

Besides Hugo, my favourite inspirational person is Rosa Parks. She is the woman who defied segregation by refusing to let a white man take her seat on the bus. Rosa championed what she believed in with a quiet, dignified confidence.

9)  You look great in our Just for Love charity tee – what do you think of the campaign?

Thank you, the Just for Love charity tee is gorgeous. The campaign is invaluable because it is fundraising for a new medical research centre that will help prevent miscarriage, premature birth, and stillbirth. There surely can be no better cause than saving babies’ lives. Losing your much-wanted, much-loved baby is utterly devastating, it is something I would not wish on anyone.

10)   What advice would you like to pass on to other mums?

Be aware of your body while you are pregnant and don’t hesitate to seek help if you are ever worried – you are better safe than sorry. Being a mum is not always easy, whether or not your baby is in your arms – but do your best to celebrate and enjoy every moment.

Nail It! Meet our Top 5 Nail Trends Hot off the Spring Catwalks

We don’t know about you, but here at Seraphine we can’t wait for spring! The days are definitely getting lighter and longer, and we’ve even spotted a few intrepid flowers springing up about the place. But as much as we’d like to, it’s still a little chilly to switch our winter coats out for a lighter option. So while we wait for spring to get into full swing, we’re tiding ourselves over by trying out the latest nail trends fresh from the SS16 catwalks.

Here are our top 5 trends to try this season:

1) French Tips 2.0

You could certainly be forgiven for thinking that French tips were a thing of the past – we all sure did! But this season saw some fabulous new takes on the classic style. We saw French tips in unexpectedly vibrant shades like bright green at Monique L’huillier and burnt orange at Veronica Beard – perfect for warmer weather. And Tibi combined the French tips, negative space and bright colour trends to create modern interrupted tips.

2) Check it Out

Another big bold trend to look out for this season is checks. Opening Ceremony nailed this look, offering bright primary colour checks on some models, along with classic black and white on others. While at the Brooks Brothers by Zac Posen show, they took a more subtle approach with a paired down plaid effect.

3) Get in Line

Sticking with the geometric theme, stripes were all the rage this season. From elegant asymmetric lines in chic black & white at Marissa Webb, to sleek gold foil strips on rich chocolate brown at Phillip Lim, it seems anything goes when it comes to stripes this season! We love this trend – it’s super wearable, and easily adaptable to match any outfit.

Work it with: Nautical Maternity Maxi Dress

4) Ultra-feminine

If you’re aiming for a more feminine aesthetic this spring, you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of options to choose from. We love the soft ombre effect nails at Suno and Rebecca Minkoff. And if Erin Fetherston’s stunning nude floral nails with exquisite pearl detailing aren’t the ideal bridal style, we don’t know what is!

Work it with: Pink Gingham Cotton Maternity Dress

5) All that Glitters

And for something a little bit special, why not add a touch of glitter! There are plenty of ways to add a touch of sparkle to your style this season – we love Kenzo’s textured gold foil and Chanel’s high-shine liquid chrome look. Or for a subtler approach, we saw discreet glitter at Delpozo and subtle gold leaf sparkles at Alice & Olivia.

Work it with: Stretch Denim Maternity Jumpsuit

Whichever trend you try this season, make sure to nail your style with the latest Seraphine maternity clothes!

Bump & Style: How to Flatter Your Pregnancy Body Type

As women, we tend to be pretty well acquainted with our own body types. You probably already have a good idea of whether you qualify as an apple, a pear, an hourglass, or goodness knows what other kind of fruit or vegetable; and you’ll know how to dress to make the most of your shape. But once those pregnancy curves come into the equation, you’ll have a whole new set of shapes to style!

Today we want to help you figure out your pregnancy body type, and offer a few tips to help you flatter your new figure.

Many women find that their baby affects more than just their bump. If you’re gaining weight evenly and seem to be rounding out all over – from the usual suspects like hips, boobs and bum to more unusual places like arms, legs and even your face – then you may be a naturally curvy mama.

For you, dressing for your shape is all about elongating your figure, to help you look longer and leaner. Choose soft maternity dresses in a gently form fitting fabric to show off your beautiful bump – our Woven Printed Maternity Dress would be perfect.

Your key accessory is a long waterfall cardigan that matches the length of your dress, which will optically slim and lengthen your silhouette.

If your baby is sitting low, you’ll likely be showing a cute bump just above your hips. There’s a common old wives tale that would have us believe that this means you’re having a boy – while we can’t vouch for that, we can help you to make the most of your new shape!

Your main concern will be to choose styles that are soft at the waistline – anything that puts too much pressure on the bump is going to be a no-no. We suggest a pair of stylish under bump maternity jeans with a long maternity top.

Your key accessory is a cute cropped cardigan to balance you out and draw attention up towards your face.

If your baby is sitting high, it can sometimes feel like your bust and bump are morphing into one! But the good news is with the right styling, you and your high sitting bump can rock some seriously cute maternity outfits.

Your main fashion concern is to define your curves by separating bust and bump – so something like our Nautical Maternity & Nursing Dress with stripes across the top and a plain navy skirt will work wonders for you. Colour blocking top and bottom is also a great idea – why not try a cute blouse with a high-waisted over bump maternity skirt!

Your key accessory is a stylish maternity belt to wrap around and nip in your empire waist.

If you are naturally petite, that baby bump has nowhere to go but out! So while you keep your naturally slim frame, your bump will really pop. With the right maternity clothes, you can play up your pregnancy curves – so don’t be afraid to take risks and have fun with your fashion!

You are one of the lucky ones who can pull off pretty much anything through pregnancy! That being said, you may need a little help in the early stages adding extra curve to your curves. Why not try a cute pair of skinny maternity jeans with a soft ruched maternity top to add a little oomph to your bump. Horizontal stripes and patterns will look great on you – our Printed Side Ruched Maternity Dress is the perfect choice.

Your key accessory is anything to make your look pop – why not try one of our Empire Maternity Belts in silver.

Jo Parkerson is the Entertainment and Lifestyle Content Director at Bauer Media UK – the parent company of some of the UK’s biggest magazines and radio stations including Absolute Radio, Magic 105.4, Heat, Grazia & Mother & Baby. But you may know her better as the Presenter behind Magic’s Green Room, interviewing some of the world’s biggest stars – scroll down to see what happened when Jo & Bump met Will Smith! Now expecting her second daughter, Jo shares a few of her pregnancy tips and maternity styling tricks.

1)      We love your style! Can you sum it up in 3 words?

Thank you 🙂

High Street lux!

2)      How have you been styling your bump? Are you more of a fitted kind of girl, or do you like to keep things loose and flowing?

A mix of the two depending on how I’m feeling and which trimester I’m in!  First trimester was definitely loose and flowing hiding the bump.  During my 2nd trimester I embarked the bump …once it had popped out and I stopped looking fat!  And now at 32 weeks I’m all about loose and flowing …..shift maternity dresses and tights are my go-to-look.

3)      Do you have a favourite piece from the Seraphine collection?

I love the Woven printed Maternity Dress and the Faux Leather Panel Maternity Leggings. And the Denim Swing Maternity Dress.  Its all lovely!

4)      What is the best part about being pregnant?

Not having to hold my tummy in!  And feeling like you have a little companion everywhere you go – I’m still blown away by the fact I’m growing another human being inside me!

5)      Have you had any weird pregnancy cravings?

Fizzy Water! I can’t get enough of it!

Jo Parkerson's must-have makeup

Seraphine’s Top 5 Spring Makeup Trends for 2016

The start of a new season is the perfect time to shake up your makeup routine with a few fresh new looks – why not get a head start today! Colour is the big story this spring – after season upon season of “no-makeup makeup” it’s seems that we can finally start busting out a bold red lip or electric blue liner again! Read on to discover our picks of the top 5 makeup trends to try this SS16…

Always a failsafe option, the classic red lip united makeup artists across the board this season in a specific shade of candy apple red. Seen all over the runways from Jason Wu to DKNY and Oscar de la Renta; the precision applied bold red lip is the perfect partner for a little black maternity dress, and the ultimate way to bring a little extra oomph to any outfit.

From tiny turquoise touches in the corners at Philip Lim, to iridescent butterfly effects at Diane Von Furstenberg and full on powder blue bandit masks at Chanel; designers & makeup artists couldn’t get enough of bold blue eye shadows and liners. There are no rules here – choose your shade, then go as big & bright or as soft & subtle as you like! This look is perfect for pairing with some of our stylish blue maternity dresses.

There are more ways than one to be pretty in pink this season! Usually reserved for the lips and cheeks, this season saw several makeup artists adding a pop of pink to the eyes. From peachy coral shades at Dior and Erdem to bright candy pink at Giamba, done right this trend can be ultra- soft and feminine – just like our Blush Pleated Maternity Skirt or our Pink Gingham Cotton Maternity Dress.

An unexpected twist on the spring summer catwalks this year was a moody injection of dark, rich lipsticks. We love the berry ombre lip stain at Burberry, the high shine dark gloss at Givenchy, and at Miu Miu we saw a dramatic look with berry liner fading into a dark purple shade. Work the trend with minimal eye makeup for a really striking style.

Designers and makeup artists had some serious fun with sparkles this season, and everybody had their own take on the look. We saw subtle fairy dust shimmers across the lids at Delpozo, major swathes of glitter at Creatures of the Wind, and Kate Spade models sported an understated streak of silver just above the lash line. A touch of sparkle is the perfect way to glam up your outfit for the evening – rock the look with our Premium Stretch Denim Maternity Jumpsuit and a glamorous beaded belt.
