Mummy & Me: Dolce & Gabbana to Harper & Victoria Beckham

Coordinating mummy & me outfits have been big news all season, starting on the runways of Milan and filtering through celebs, fashion bloggers and real mums alike. From Dolce & Gabbana’s stunning AW15 show to stylish celebrity mini-me’s on the FROW – we can’t get enough of this charming matching mum and daughter trend!

Dolce & Gabbana Mother and child fashion

It all started at the beginning of this season when Dolce & Gabbana themed their AW15 runway show – Mamma – around stunning mothers and daughters. Their beautiful matching mummy & me dresses sparked a global fashion trend focused entirely on you stylish mums – our favourite kind!

Celebrity mums and babies

And it’s not just the designers leading the way: Pint-sized celebs including Harper Beckham and North West graced the front rows at fashion week. While super model Coco Rocha’s 10 month old daughter Ioni Conran has her own Instagram account complete with 48,000 followers!

Fashion bloggers and their babies

Here at Seraphine, we are always excited to see your snaps, and we especially love the pictures of you with your little ones. Fashion blogger Irina Bond of Bond Girl Glam and her gorgeous 1 year old Vienna rocked adorable coordinating coats at the start of the season, and another stylish mum on Instagram dressed her daughter in a pretty lace dress to match our White Lace Maternity Dress. While Irish fashion blogger and Instagram star Eimear Varian Barry (featured on the blog this week) and her gorgeous daughter Saoirse looked super cute with matching white shirts and hairstyles.

Matching mummy and me coats by Seraphine

This season the ultimate way to match your little one is to invest in stylish matching coats! Our powder blue Cashmere Blend Maternity Coat, loved by The Duchess of Cambridge while expecting Princess Charlotte, is the perfect partner for the adorable Blue Princess Coat from the Diana Collection, made in the same soft cashmere blend.

Have fun matching mamas!

First Trimester Fashion Tips: How to Hide a Baby Bump

Congratulations – you’re pregnant! You just got the biggest news of your life, but if you aren’t ready to shout it from the rooftops just yet, we are here to help.

As the world begins to open up again, we’ve put together a few top tips on how to hide a baby bump at work, out with friends and even from your nearest and dearest before you’re ready to share the news.

First Trimester Tips At Work

1st trimester maternity work wear to hide a baby bump

1) Maternity Workwear

While many of us have worked from home this past year, hiding a baby bump at work has not been a problem – it’s easy enough to angle your zoom camera high!

But as we begin to contemplate a gradual return to the office, it’s worth thinking about maternity workwear options. Anything with an empire waist will cinch you in under your bust and glide easily over your figure. Choose one of our stylish empire maternity dresses, or wear a loose fitting blouse, untucked over a comfy pair of black maternity trousers to hide your baby bump at the office.

2) Choose a Partner in Crime

Hide a baby bump at work

Covering your first trimester tracks at work can be exhausting, so we suggest letting someone at the office in on the secret. They can help you divert attention from tell-tale hospital appointments and inevitable pregnancy symptoms.

Your work bestie is the perfect candidate, though really it could be anyone you trust to keep mum about your impending mummy-hood.

3) Stock up your Snack Drawer

Make sure to have a good supply of plain snacks, mints or gum and water to sip at your desk. Anything that will help in case you come over queasy at work.

4) Get Sneaky with your Drinks

If you’re not usually one to shy away from a drink, your friends may catch on if you suddenly abstain. If you’re out at a bar, try to order when no one is listening and get a virgin version of your usual – a lemonade or sparkling water can easily be dressed up as a gin & tonic.

If it’s a dinner party setting & somebody pours you a glass of wine without asking, make sure your partner gets a glass of the same & subtly switch glasses each time his starts to go down – if you’re careful, nobody will notice you’re not actually drinking.

If all else fails, claim that you’re detoxing or on antibiotics, or better yet, offer to be the designated driver!

5) Draw Attention Up

Use your clothes and accessories to distract, misdirect & draw attention up towards your face, away from your budding bump. A gorgeous dress with a busy pattern or a lot of detail at the top could do the trick, or try some statement jewellery.

First Trimester Tips for Family Gatherings

First trimester fashion tips

6) Balance your Bump

Family gatherings can be tricky – especially if your mum or mother-in-law are on high-alert grandbaby-watch! Wearing shapeless baggy clothes is sure to raise suspicion, so the trick at this stage is to balance out loose tops with more fitted bottoms. Our maternity leggings or skinny jeans would be perfect for pairing with oversized A-line tops for a relaxed weekend look.

7) Layer Up

Hide a baby bump with clever layers

To really disguise your new curves, layer up with a long draped scarf or cardigan. One of our Long Line Cardigans would be the perfect cover.

8) Time for a Makeover

Been thinking about a new haircut, or experimenting with some new makeup looks? Now is the perfect time to shake up your beauty routine, so that when someone spots something different about you, you can blame it on your new look. It can also help to give you a little boost if you aren’t feeling 100% right now.

Good luck keeping your wonderful secret mamas!

New Year’s Resolutions for Mums: Super Foods & Maternity Fashion

Making New Year’s Resolutions can be the perfect opportunity to shake things up, and blow away the cobwebs of last year’s routine. With a baby on the way, this year’s list is bound to look a little different – after all, you’ve already cut out alcohol and you certainly won’t be wanting to lose any weight! So what are the best New Year’s Resolutions for mums? Whether it’s keeping fit, making sure you get your full 5 a day, or even just prioritising your beauty sleep, here are a few of our favourites…

Exercise ideas for pregnancy

A little gentle exercise is a great way to boost your mood and keep fit through pregnancy. Staying active through your trimesters can help to ease labour and can even make slimming down after baby a little easier. We’ve turned to a few of our favourite celebrity mums & mums-to-be for a little inspiration and motivation for getting moving through your nine months.

Top 5 pregnancy superfoods

Pregnancy super foods

When it comes to the healthiest foods to eat through pregnancy, getting the right vitamins and minerals becomes a top priority. Folate, fibre and iron are the holy trinity of pregnancy minerals, but there’s a whole host of other vitamins to consider too! Working healthy eating into your New Year’s Resolutions List is a great idea; here are 5 of the more unexpected pregnancy super foods…

1) Figs – fibre, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, vitamin K

Just 1 serving of figs contains a whopping 5 grams of fibre and a quarter of your daily calcium requirement – not to mention all the other wonderful nutrients that come along with it! Try keeping fresh juicy figs in the fruit bowl or add some dried figs into a bag of trail mix.

2) Chives – folate, iron, fibre, vitamin C, vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium

Folate is the most important nutrient for your baby’s development – especially in the first trimester. Mix a handful of fresh chopped chives into soups or dips, or sprinkle on top of salads or creamy mashed potatoes for an instant vitamin boost.

Follow Seraphine Maternity’s board BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS on Pinterest.

3) Leeks – folate, vitamin B6, calcium, vitamin K, iron

Leeks are the vegetable equivalent of a turbo-charged multi-vitamin power up. They are a fantastic non-dairy source of calcium – essential for baby’s healthy bone development, and one serving contains almost 60 micrograms of folate. These unassuming veggies are perfect in stews – throw in some shitake mushrooms and fresh chopped ginger for the ultimate morning sickness buster.

4) Fresh Basil – protein, vitamin E, riboflavin, iron, calcium, folate

Fresh basil is jam-packed with iron to keep your energy levels up, calcium for strong bones and teeth, and that all important folate to help with baby’s healthy development. So it’s a good thing that this aromatic herb is so darn delicious! Why not treat yourself to a fresh Caprese salad; alternating slices of ripe tomato, creamy buffalo mozzarella and fresh whole basil leaves, topping off with a healthy glug of olive oil and just a sprinkling of sea salt.

5) Molasses – magnesium manganese, vitamin B6, potassium

Magnesium found in sweet, sticky molasses (or black treacle) is essential for baby’s healthy bone development, and getting the proper amount of vitamin B6 and potassium may help to balance out your water retention, hopefully shrinking down those swollen ankles! Try stirring a spoonful of molasses into oatmeal or ginger tea as a vitamin-rich sweetener.

Cecile Reinaud Introduces The Diana Collection at the Global Gift Gala

Séraphine Founder Cécile Reinaud introduces the beautiful new range of Baby wear – The Diana Collection:

I am honoured to have been commissioned by the Diana Award foundation to create this signature baby wear range using the iconic Diana pastel tartan. The Diana Award recognises young people who are working to transform their communities and the lives around them, and works to continue Princess Diana’s legacy. Twelve percent of the sales of every piece in the range will go towards the foundation to raise vital funds for their mentoring and anti-bullying programmes.

The Diana Collection Baby Clothes

The iconic Diana pastel tartan is woven in Scotland, and I wanted to give a modern take on this heritage fabric. I used little touches of the signature tartan against contrasting fabrics so that it stands out even more. This first collection is primarily focused on baby girl clothes because that’s what inspires me most. I am the mum of two boys so I guess I still crave playing dolls with cute baby girl clothes, and designing this range felt exactly like that, it was like child’s play!

Making beautiful baby clothes and giving back to the community at the same time really inspired me and I hope it will inspire you too.

This week we were delighted to dress Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The Princess looked stunning in Seraphine as she joined her father, the King of Sweden, to welcome the Nobel Peace Prize Winners to the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

The Princess looked immaculate in our Sophia Navy Pleated Maternity Dress for the official royal occasion. She wore her long hair tied back, and styled the look with blue heels, a matching clutch and a pair of stylish drop earrings.

Victoria isn’t the only royal to love this stylish navy dress; The Duchess of Cambridge wore the same style last year while she was expecting Princess Charlotte.

Princess Victoria has favoured Seraphine maternity clothes throughout her pregnancy, choosing several of our most popular maternity dresses, coats and jackets as well as several styles from the LUXE Collection for official royal occasions.
